Two-year-old dies after drowning in 30-cm fish pond

A two-year-old toddler died after drowning in a 30-cm deep fish pond on Wednesday.

According to a Lianhe Zaobao report, a family member found the child unconscious in the fish pond in the morning.

He was alone in the garden at his aunt's semi-detached house at Jurong West when he fell into the pond.

His father said that while adults were home at that time, no one was watching over him.

A neighbour told the Chinese evening tabloid that he heard loud barking, and then a shout for help originating from the house.

A person rushed out and approached neighbours to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the boy, who had turned pale.

Police was informed of the accident at 11:45am.

The boy was taken to National University Hospital but died at 10:20 pm on Wednesday night.

On Thursday at the mortuary, the boy's father told The New Paper, "It was an accident. Nobody wanted this to happen."
