3 UFC Lightweights Who Could Challenge ONE World Champion Christian Lee

ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee has been on a tear since taking the belt from Japanese mixed martial arts icon Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki in 2019, defeating four of the five ranked lightweights in his division.

And while Lee still has much to accomplish in ONE’s lightweight ranks, there are three fighters outside of the promotion who would be exciting opponents for the 23-year-old superstar.

Here, we look at three UFC lightweights who could challenge the ONE Lightweight World Champion should the two organizations hold a crossover event.

#1 Charles Oliveira (c)

Charles Oliveira is the current UFC Lightweight World Champion. He joined the organization in 2010 and saw immediate success, winning his first two matches.

The Brazilian then went on a roller-coaster ride for his next 17 fights, winning some and losing some.

In June 2018, however, his luck changed. After defeating Clay Guida that month, he won seven more bouts and then defeated Michael Chandler for the vacant lightweight strap.

Lee has enjoyed similar success in ONE Championship. Since 2018, he’s been unstoppable in the lightweight division, going 6-0.

#2 Michael Chandler (4)

The aforementioned Chandler is currently ranked #4 in the UFC and trains out of Sanford MMA, which is home to former ONE World Champions Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang, Brandon “The Truth” Vera, and Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen.

In his UFC debut, Chandler defeated the promotion’s #8-ranked lightweight, Dan Hooker, by first-round TKO, which earned him the matchup with Oliveira.

Although he came up short in his World Title quest, Chandler is currently 22-6, which means he’d have the edge in experience over Lee.

#3 Dustin Poirier (1)

Top-ranked UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier is another athlete who could test Lee in either the Circle or the Octagon.

Poirier is the UFC’s former Interim Lightweight World Champion who holds wins over Conor McGregor, Hooker, and #1-ranked featherweight Max Holloway.

Having shared the Octagon with the best of his division, Poirier would be an entertaining opponent for ONE’s Lightweight World Champion, Lee.
