7 of the most 'egg-citing' brunch spots

BY FAY GAFFIGAN

Artichoke Café & Bar

Located between the junction of Middle Road and Waterloo Street, Artichoke Cafe & Bar has been touted time, and time again to be one of the best brunch places in Singapore. The café is all about communal dining, so portions tend to be a bit bigger, and it’s always fun to order a bunch of food and share it amongst people you love. Their signature egg dish? Try the Eggs Shakshouka, two eggs baked in tomato sauce with braised lamb, yogurt cheese and toast. Be sure to make reservations if you’re heading there on the weekends.

Choupinette

You can’t go wrong with a café that has a practically permanent aroma of freshly baked brioches and baguettes. Jolene Koh, the woman behind cupcake business Cupcake Weekend, and bona fide foodie recommends the Choupinette’s Eggs Benedict. She swears by the two perfectly poached eggs with runny yolk, laid on thinly shaved ham on two slices of English muffin halves, and finished off with their creamy and tangy hollandaise sauce.

Epicurious

Denver Yang, a fan of brunches – amongst other meals, says his gets his eggs fix at “Epicurious, hands down. Go before ten in the morning on the weekends or be prepared for a queue.” According to Denver, they make a wicked Eggs Royale with smoked salmon – but they call it Eggs Benedict. Don’t get confused, and be sure to order sautéed mushrooms on the side.

Club Street Social

This restaurant cum bar whips up an Italian-inspired menu of bar bites such as Italian tuna tramezzini and offers a handful of cocktails and wines, but they also dish up some wicked breakfast-worthy items. Jolene says the best scrambled eggs she’s ever had in Singapore has got to be at Club Street Social. It helps that you feel like you’re in Manhattan in this bistro-bar.

P.S. Café at Palais Renaissance

Pam S recommends Big Bacon and Eggs. It’s the breakfast people dream about – 2 eggs – poached, fried, scrambled, egg white scrambled or omelet – served with an herbed toast, crisped bacon, oven tomato, rocket pesto roasted mushrooms and sausages. Yum.

Wild Honey

You can’t talk about brunches and not talk about Wild Honey. Still one of the hottest places to go for all-day breakfasts, you can almost always expect a line when you’re at their Mandarin Gallery outlet. Thankfully, you can make reservations for their newer Scotts Square restaurant. While there is a plethora of egg-related items to choose from, try their All Truff'd Up, two softly poached eggs nestled on truffle brioche toasts, asparagus, truffle & creme fraiche sauce & finished with a generous shaving of summer black truffles from Italy. Mmmm…

Riders Café

Riders café may be a trek to get to, especially for those who don’t drive, but it may be well worth the journey. The quaint restaurant always smells of fresh coffee, and a medley of wares wafting from their kitchen. The view is just as lovely too: the best seats in the house are by the balcony overlooking the horses’ paddock and training circle. Try their Blackstone Benedict, or what’s called “The Usual” in the café.
