Most women (and some men) see handbags just as mediums to carry things, some see it as a means to accessorise; and then there are others who use handbags as status symbols.
But every now and then, there will come a bag that is either ridiculously expensive or just plain ridiculous; and it will prompt you to wonder why they were made in the first place.

If you do some research on Hermes, you may notice bids flying around. The numbers are insane; $100,000, $150,000, $200,000, and even a whopping $222,000.
You might wonder what would drive a person to spend about 1 cr 42 lakh on a hot pink bag – it’s not even that pretty! You could buy a fleet of cars with that amount.
If you delve deeper into the world of outrageous bags, you will also find one certain 18-carat gold crusted bag that was sold at Christie’s in Hong Kong to an anonymous phone bidder, setting a record for the most expensive bag ever to be sold at an auction.
Louis Vuitton- The Urban Satchel

All those of you who claim that you can spot an Louis Vuitton from a mile away are in for a surprise!
Would you ever believe the handbag above is actually a Louis Vuitton? This urban satchel will set you back by $150,000.
As you can probably guess, it’s made out of trash. An empty, squashed water bottle in a sorry state, a cigarette box and a chewing gum wrapper.
Celebrity fashionista Ashley Olsen had reportedly signed a multi-million dollar deal with LV to promote the bag in the upcoming Vogue issues.
The idea behind the campaign was probably to make Ashley look like a rag doll with a rag bag and call it high fashion.
Unfortunately this isn’t the only ‘trash bag’ LV has designed. Take a look at some of the others.

This bag is basically a raincoat, cut into the shape of a trash bag - with leather straps.
The most interesting attribute however is that LV decided to price this bag at $1960, which is approximately 1 lakh and 25 thousand.

LV’s obsession with trashy bags doesn’t end there. Here’s another one, this patchwork bag will cost you approximately, 28 and a half lakhs.
This bag is reportedly made up of pieces of 14 LV bags sewn together and there are 26 of these in existence.
Beyonce Knowles was gifted one of these by Marc Jacobs himself!
We shall not envy her for this one!
The Hermes ‘Geranium Porosus’

If you thought that was funny, you are going to love this one!
Hermes came up with a 5-legged bag – so, a bag with the good old 4 legs was not enough.
This creepy bag was auctioned off and guess how much it fetched them? A stunning $125,000 which is approximately 79 lakhs and 35 thousand, which was much higher than the retail price of $60000.
We bet the managers themselves were surprised.
Chanel ‘Diamond Forever’

Moving on, here is a rather pretty Chanel bag that will set you back a cool $261,000, which is approximately 1 crore and 70 lakh. (Since this bag was not auctioned, it does not break the Hermes record) There are only 14 of these currently existing in the world - they are made of superior quality crocodile skin, studded with 334 diamonds set in white gold, which is also what the straps are made of.
Hermes Birkin Ginza Tanaka Bag

Hermes Birkin also has its own set of jewel studded bags, one of which is this Ginza Tanaka bag. The piece looks more like a piece of jewellery than a handbag, but is nonetheless outrageously beautiful. It will also cost you an outrageous $1.9 million or Rupees 12 crores and 6 lakhs!
Mouawad 1001 Nights

However, the Ginza Tanaka is not even the most expensive bag in the world, not at all. The award for that would be given to Mouawad 1001 nights for a bag that costs a stupendous $3.8 million or approximately 24 crores and 12 lakh rupees. This purse holds the Guinness Record for the world’s most expensive bag. Despite that this purse is more often than not spoken of as a piece of jewellery than a handbag. That probably has something to do with the fact that this purse is made of made of 4517 diamonds. This was Mouawad’s second world record. It set its first one when Mouawad collaborated with Victoria Secret to make its $11 million fantasy bra.
