Ah Nan dies of heart attack

22 Jan – Singaporean actor and Getai performer John Cheng, who is also known as Ah Nan among his peers and fans, died of an apparent heart attack last night.

According Straits Times, his wife stated her 52-year-old husband collapsed backstage following a performance in a nightclub in Chinatown.

His sudden death means that he will not be appearing onstage for Chinese New Year concert on 12 February 2013.

Ah Nan made his acting debut in the 1998 film "Money No Enough" followed by "Liang Po Po: The Movie". Before joining show business in 1987, Cheng used to be part of a gang, had gambling problems and was a loan shark runner, which is why he is often casted as thugs and brutal types prone to violence.

He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
