BANGKOK, Thailand - A passenger train derailed in Thailand's restive south, killing one passenger and injuring 27 others, a spokesman for the country's state railway said Sunday.
The crash occurred late Saturday night after workers began digging a drainage ditch underneath the tracks, said spokesman Pairat Rojaroenngam from southern Songkhla province.
"One passenger was killed and 27 were injured," Pairat said. "Most of them have been discharged from the hospital."
The train was carrying 400 passengers and was traveling from Sungai Kolok to Pattaluna.
