KANPUR, India – Rahul Dravid scored his 28th test century as India moved quickly to 535-4 on day two of the second test against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
Dravid became the third India batsman in the innings to hit a century as he compiled 144 off 226 balls to help India add 118 runs before lunch.
Resuming at first day's score of 417-2, India lost overnight batsmen Sachin Tendulkar (40) and Dravid, with V.V.S. Laxman unbeaten on 24 and Yuvraj Singh 13 not out at lunch.
Dravid, who was unbeaten 85 at stumps Tuesday, briskly scored the 15 runs required to complete his century. He added 96 runs for the third wicket with Tendulkar, who became the first batsman to fall on the second day when he miscued a shot against spin bowler Ajantha Mendis and was caught by Thilan Samaraweera at deep-midoff.
Dravid was run out at the non-striker's end when Rangana Herath failed to hold a return catch on a forceful shot from Laxman, but the ball deflected on to the stumps with Dravid caught outside the crease while backing up.
Dravid's dominating knock contained a six and 15 fours.
