Diego Rivera: Murals for the Museum of Modern Art (November 13 - May 14, New York)
From the Mexican muralist's one-person show for MoMA in 1931, eight ‘portable murals' that Diego Rivera created for the museum will all be on display for the first time in 80 years. The monumental work depicts the Mexican revolution, such as "Agrarian Leader Zapata," as well as paintings of the New York working class during the Great Depression.

Ellsworth Kelly: Prints and Paintings (January 22-April 22, California, USA)
This retrospective of American artist Ellsworth Kelly, a key contributor to the abstract movement, features more than 100 prints created since 1988 and five paintings illustrative of his geometric shapes and bold vibrant color. The exhibition, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), is organized thematically, exploring the motifs of grids, contrast and curves.

40th Hong Kong Arts Festival (January 28 - March 8, Various venues)
Acknowledged as the premier event of its kind in Asia, the 40th edition of the Hong Kong festival has lined up 166 performances from 38 ensembles or solo artists including everything from the likes of the Beijing Opera to the Hamburg Ballet.

Cindy Sherman (February 26 - June 11, New York, USA)
A retrospective of this American contemporary photographer, known for conceptual portraits featuring herself disguised as personas that examine the media and the representation of women. The 180 photographs trace the artist's career from the mid-1970s to the present, including her Untitled Film Stills (1977-80) series, society images and the debut of recent murals. 34th Sydney Mardi Gras (February 12-March 4, Sydney, Australia)
Sydney's annual Mardi Gras is not the largest annual gay pride festival in the world in terms of participants but it rivals gay and lesbian pride events in New York City, Amsterdam, San Francisco and Sao Paulo for the title of "best gay event in the world." Sydney's world-famous Mardi Gras Parade is the highlight of the two-week long festivities combining more than 60 different events.

Cirque du Soleil's 'Michael Jackson The Immortal' (Through July 17, North America)
Famed high-flying troupe Cirque du Soleil kicked off its tribute to the King of Pop in their own hometown of Montreal on October 2. The lavish dance-filled production is touring North America, and organizers announced that the show will tour the rest of the globe.

Drake Tour (February 14 - April 25, US, Europe)
Toronto-based rapper Drake is hitting the road in support of his sophomore album, Take Care. The "Headlines" MC will embark on what he's dubbed his 2012 Club Paradise Tour with MC Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky in supporting roles. The US leg kicks off on February 14 in Miami and wraps up March 11 in San Diego. So far, no dates for his Canadian home turf have been announced. On March 24, he kicks off the European leg in Dublin, and wraps up the tour on April 25 in Nottingham.

Death Cab for Cutie Tour (February 17 - June 7, worldwide) American indie band Death Cab for Cutie is set to launch a world tour in support of Grammy-nominated seventh studio album Codes and Keys. The tour kicks off in Perth, Australia, on February 17 for a two-night run at the Perth International Arts Festival. The alt-rockers will then tour cities in Australia and Asia before returning to North America on April 10 for a 22-city run. The band then heads to Barcelona on May 30, followed by a show in Porto, Portugal. More European summer festival dates are expected to be announced soon.
