Baz Luhrmann to do "Kung Fu" next
16 Apr – Baz Luhrmann, who is known for his period romance and music films, may be tackling a different genre for his next film, the action-adventure western drama television series "Kung Fu", which starred David Carradine.
According to Empire Online, the Australian director is in negotiations with Legendary Pictures to adapt "Kung Fu" into a feature-length film. Earlier, it was said that Bill Paxton was in talks for the director's role, but it seems that it did not work out. In the same vein, The Hollywood Reporter cautions that it's unclear how far the talks with Luhrmann have progressed.
The television series follows the adventures of Kwai Chang Caine (Carradine), a Shaolin monk who travels through the American Old West armed only with his spiritual training and his skill in martial arts, after his beloved mentor is murdered by the Emperor's nephew. Caine's goal is to seek to find his family roots and, ultimately, his half-brother, Danny Caine.
The script for the "Kung Fu" film would be written by John McLaughlin ("Black Swan"). No further details have been released about the film.
