Bersih slams top cop for mocking food poisoning cases at rally

Electoral reforms coalition Bersih 2.0 has slammed the inspector-general of police (IGP) for mocking those who caught food poisoning at the Bersih 4 rally last weekend, believed to be from tainted food or drink. Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah said they found it "very disturbing" that Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was being light-hearted about the matter. "Bersih 2.0 calls on the IGP to conduct himself in a manner befitting the position entrusted to him by the public, that is, to protect and serve all regardless and not be seen to discriminate against those who participated in Bersih 4," she said in a statement today. Khalid had attributed the food poisoning of 13 participants at the rally to eating "too much chili" and said that even though the toxicology report was not out, only two participants received treatment and they were not admitted to hospital. “We have not got the toxicology report yet on what is the cause of the food poisoning. Maybe they ate too much chilli. “There were many roadside stalls during the rally that I saw people buying food from, maybe they got sick after eating from there,” he was quoted as saying by The Malay Mail Online yesterday. – September 4, 2015.
