Blake Lively: Brother boosted career

Blake Lively only went to her first audition because she didn’t want to hurt her brother’s feelings.

The 25-year-old may be one of the brightest stars in Hollywood, but insists she was an introverted child. Blake never craved the limelight, preferring to watch other people shine.

“I didn’t know what to do but I knew it wasn’t acting, as I liked to hide behind my mom’s skirt and was really shy,” she told Total Film. “But I would end up on sets or in acting classes just because they didn’t have a babysitter and when I was 16, my brother decided I would like it, so he asked his agent to send me out on an audition. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, so I went.”

Since displaying a talent for acting, Blake has landed a lead role in TV show Gossip Girl and also appeared in movies including Green Lantern and The Town.

The beauty has an admirable work ethic and likes to keep busy. This determined streak is something she grew up with, and during high school she was a cheerleader, class president and in the choir.

“I took on too many clubs and activities, and they said, ‘You can’t do all of these things.’ I asked why and they said, ‘Because it has never been done before.’ I said, ‘Great, now you get to see it done for the first time!’” Blake laughingly recalled. “It was a terrible idea because I went to school from 6am to 10pm every day and I was miserable, but I had to prove that I could do it because of the willpower thing.”
