Ever wondered which roads in Singapore are the most hazardous? Or which have the most accidents? We've compiled a list of the top 10 accident-prone roads (not in any particular order) here. Best to avoid these roads when your lucky stars aren't shining.

    Top 10 accident-prone roads
    1.Bukit Timah Road
    2.Lentor Avenue
    3. Upper Serangoon Road
    4. Thomson Road
    5. Upp Thomson Road
    6. Orchard Road
    7. Scotts Road
    8. Braddell Road
    9. Clementi Road
    10. Yio Chu Kang Road

Also interesting to note, is that 25 percent of accidents happen on expressways, of which the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) claims the most victims (33 percent).

Of these accidents on the PIE, 57 percent of them happen when motorists are travelling towards the direction of Changi Airport. Perhaps this is a good reminder to always plan your time well before a flight to avoid rushing on the road.

Statistics are provided by Aviva Singapore, and are based on reported accidents and claims submissions to Aviva's car insurance.

Roads are not dangerous. The road users are the most dangerous.
      • A Yahoo! User 11 months ago
Not entirely right. An F1 driver would differ on that opinion. They would cite road bumps, traction qualities, visibility and what not. And any motorist knows that the driving experience and safety on different roads differ due to road characteristics.

Having said that I do agree, road users have to be extra careful on winding roads for example.

Especially when rainning visibility bad and water ponding after the flyovers. Very dangerous when next lane vehicle splash water on to your windscreen. Must be extra careful.

Accidents are cause mostly by dangerous drivers, I see a lot of trucks and big vehicles driving like they are Formula 1 drivers. Traffic police, where are you? Please spot these truck drivers and stop them from causing accidents. The other vehicle causing accidents are Taxi drivers, how many of you notice that they always drive on 2 lanes , rise your hand?!

well... u shld try travelling on the expressways during evening peak hours.. every alternate days there is car chain collisions on the 1st lane. So jam liao still want to tail gate... zzz...

Please note that if you ever spot a traffic police on the road, count yourself lucky. It's seems that they are using some sort of invisibility technolo---- or advance camouflage technique. No?

      Strange. Why Geylang no accident?
      • Leslie 11 months ago
Becos geylang is not a road for cars its a pedestrain so being secondary you let people go first then you second. Try driving down that road your foot must be on the brakes most of the times than the acceralator.

Upon knowing abt these accident proned roads, please resolve this problem by not installing the useless ERP gantries,

LTA >> put more brain power in eliminating the road problems.
      • Spiritual Spearhead 11 months ago
LTA will put more brain power to install MORE ERP gantries after this feedback.... don't worry :P
      • vincent 11 months ago
Don't think LTA wants to resolve the problems. That is their means of earning more money...Who in the right mind will cut off their money line?Expecally its the government. We can count ourselves lucky that they did not suck us totally dry.But we are more or less there already.

Roads are often made dangerous by dangerous drivers, dangerous cyclist, and dangerous pedestrians. Not to mention the dangerous insurerers and taxes. Isn't it a dangerous world?

        LTA SLEEPING ON THE JOB...
I THINK A REAL TARGET MUST BE SET FOR LTA: NO MORE ROAD DEATH! OTHERWISE NO BONUS!

NO MODIFIED CARS AS THEY ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB OF ENFORCEMENT!

CARS RASING IN BEDOK SOUTH ROAD AFTER 12MID NIGHT & NO POLICE AROUND?????

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR TRANSPORT MINISTER??? WORTH YOUR TITLE?

"NO MORE DEATH DUE TO TRAFFICE ACCIDENTS !!!

hi ND THANKS TO WRITE THIS COMMENT 100% TRUE

dont think its the roads that is dangerous - its the people that uses the roads that make it dangerous eg. reckless driver , jay - walkers etc.and if you are working or staying near Jurong Industrial Area you can add in those " bo chap" cyclists too. The way they cycled as though the roads belong to their grandfather. No body wants an accident - just be careful n considerate on the roads. Most of the time JAY-WALKERS IS WORST.. Singapore Must do someting about the jay , if you horn them they are not happy.
walkers. They dont' care. OUR PAP PLS DO SOMETHING FOR THE JAY WALKERS
    • Dk  •  11 months ago
Nothing to go against taxi driver, but it is true that their way of driving is pretty dangerous.

the new revamp stretch of ecp (behind mbs) is pretty dangerous. the lanes are now very winding and narrow.

Singaporean drivers like to TAILGATE ! And when the front car suddenly stops, the tailgater kalang kabor - inexperienced. What's more - they do it on Malaysian roads, very arrogantly and no wonder accidents occur. For heaven's sake, these type of drivers please wake up to their senses ! How fast can you go ?
    • Ning Ah Kong  •  11 months ago
      @Doubtful,
It is not true that the longer roads have higher chance of accidents.
It is mentioned in the above article, Thomson Road and Upper Thomson Road are the among top 10 accident prone roads.
Aren't East Coast Road and Upper East Coast Road long? Maybe the Katong people are better drivers and pedestrians. The foreigner-cyclist are dangerous. They disregard the road safety.

Number 1 cause of most accidents, regardless of road: BLOODY STUPID TAXI DRIVERS. If you bother to take notice, more than half of accidents involve taxis...
    • sunan  •  11 months ago
There are no such thing as dangerous roads but the danger are the vehicle drivers, who caused all the accidents on the road with their careless driving.

      TOP 10 MOST DANGEROUS CAUSES
      1.use handphone
      2.sudden braking
      3.sudden switching of lane
      4.drunken driving
      5.wet roads
      6.sleeping driver
      7.kayu driver
      8.triangle plate driver
      9.not alert driver
      10.last minute decide driver
Basically I think fast driver are not that dangerous, they tend to concentrate more on the road for lookout when they drive, unlike the slow driver and they will fall asleep easily.
    • MODERATE  •  11 months ago
Dangerous drivers include stressful, careless, inconsiderate and impatience drivers etc
Social pressure is the major source of these problems!

We are amongst the most stressful people in the world.
    • Allan  •  11 months ago

      Period.

I have been giving my comments on high property prices, shoe box units, right buttons pushed by PM Lee etc, but so far, I have not seen any action taken by Minister Khaw or by the intended parties of our forums and comments.

I am starting to seriously wonder whether our comments are even taken into consideration by the relevant authorities. I think perhaps it may be better for us to write in directly to the Ministers of the relevant ministries to get our comments/views heard. I heard from a friend who wrote directly to Minister Khaw that his comments were replied to on behalf of the Minister by one of the staff from MND. You can get the list of email addresses, contact numbers etc of all the Minsiters including the PM from the Parliament of Singapore website

Anyway, regarding this topic, I find that most of the accidents involve motorcyclists. A lot of lives (young ones) have been lost. Most of the time is it due to the other road users (cars, trucks, buses etc). It is high time the LTA look into the root cause of this problem and do the necessary to ensure the road is safe for motorcyclists. I think I will write to Minister Lui directly to give him my comments so that he can consider them and do a review of the safety for motorcyclists.

It's the drivers and not the roads. Yesterday I got into a cab and the driver drove like he was in nescar, weaving pass the other cars at top speed!

      Dear Traffic police,
Please just listen to me..only this time.

      Time : From 5-8pm
Place : BKE & SLE (toward woodland)

      Please deploy your staff.
Target : Blue Bus (Malaysia Bas Kilang)

They are driving like no one business. The driver will wave a high beam light if you drive average speed. They will overtake any lane. 1st, 2nd, 3rd lane. They will overtake at any chance.

most of the bus produced black smoke. sometime, its really worst.

do the check.........if there is no action, i will call the newspaper reporter..

Not only 10 but all roads are dangerous roads when we have dangerous, selfish, ruthless, patience-less, calculative and many more types of drivers on the roads.
