A serious of operations led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the weekend saw 59 people arrested.

Those arrested were aged between 17 and 57 and were nabbed for suspected involvement in gang-related activities.

The island-wide operation took place at various entertainment outlets, pubs, shopping centres, coffee shops and public places including locations in Pending Road, Bangkit Road, Fajar Shopping Centre, Jurong Point, Boon Lay Shopping Centre, Jurong Hill and South Bridge Road.

CID director, senior assistant commissioner of police Hoong Wee Teck said that the operations was part of police's on-going enforcement efforts to clamp down on gang activities.

"There is no place for gangs in Singapore. Those who choose to be associated with gangs will be taken to task. Police do not condone gang-related activities and will continue to come down hard on them," he added.
