The Aljunied-Hougang Town Council announced on Friday that residents of both opposition-led wards will soon be informed of the new Members of Parliament (MPs) sitting on their Town Council, as well as details on where to make payment for their Service and Conservancy Charges.

Following the General Election in May, both Town Councils, run by the Workers' Party (WP), have been reconstituted to merge and be jointly managed, reported The Straits Times.

Sylvia Lim, chairman of the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council and MP for Aljunied GRC, said, "The handover process is on track for the government deadline of Aug 1. I would like to reassure all residents that the new management is committed to working with everyone in Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC, to enhance the well-being of constituents and make the town a home to be proud of."

New community engagement programmes are also in the works for the Town Council, like a new iPhone app -- eLink@Aljunied-Hougang (identical to the iLink@Aljunied GRC) -- for the new Aljunied-Hougang estate. The app is slated to be released on 1 August, with an Android version coming out a few months later.

On top of that, the Town Council is encouraging residents to submit their own design of a logo for the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council by 31 July. The person whose logo is selected will stand to win S$800.

The competition is open to all Singaporeans and Permanent Residents, regardless of their constituency.
