    Third DBS ATM believed compromised

UPDATE (10:40am, 25 Feb to include new statement from DBS)

A third ATM appeared to have been tampered with during the same time as the skimming of two machines in Bugis, Today reported DBS as saying.

On Sunday, 17 of the bank's customers reported unauthorized withdrawals amounting to S$23,000 for which all were compensated within 24 hours, DBS said earlier.

The bank declined to reveal the location of the third machine as it would "jeopardise the ongoing investigation", reported Today.

In a statement released on Thursday, DBS said the Sunday incident was not a result of any new skimming activity but a residual effect of the same card skimming operation that took place at the end of last year.

No other unauthorised withdrawals have been made over the past few days, DBS confirmed, before adding that it is currently working closely with the authorities on the investigation.

On Monday, Yahoo! Singapore reported that several DBS customers were left shocked and stranded without cash after the bank deactivated their ATM and debit cards without prior notice.

The bank's move was indeed part of its security measures in relation to the recent occurrences of unauthorised withdrawals, a DBS spokesperson said.

DBS said that after identifying another group of customers who were potentially at risk, the bank deactivated their cards and took immediate steps to replace them. These customers were informed on the same day and new ATM and debit cards have since been issued to them.

However, DBS declined to reveal how many customers were in the affected group.
All DBS and POSB customers are encouraged to ensure that the bank has records of their current mobile phone contact details in order to facilitate the receipt of real-time SMS alerts, or other forms of customer communications.

Customers can also choose to lower their daily ATM cash withdrawal limit at any branch and the bank strongly encourages its customers to refresh their PINs on a frequent basis for added protection.

Why did the SMS informing withdrawals made from the bank's atm stopped after a brief period immediately right after the first skimming took place end of last year? I thought for a moment that it was an excellent idea that a SMS was received the moment a transaction was made to our accounts.Account holders could immediately react to their banks when they sense that a fraudulent transaction had taken place on their account. I hope that the banks will continue with this action though it may add on operational costs to them but in the longer term I feel the banks would benefit.

What if, They recieved an SMS and still the account owner ignored? where do this money go? . . By chance, some called the bank because they noticed. for those who didn't? now that's a problem. get it?

The SMS reminder is still in operation, I think your withdrawal did not hit the threshold amount set for the SMS alert . Yesterday I tried and I did receive an SMS from DBS.

I was a victim and there were numerous fraudulent withdrawals happened on my account on the Chinese New Year. This is bullshit; DBS never refund in 24 hours and told me they will take 30 to 60 days to investigate. I had to fill in a fraud transaction form and fax it to them on every single detail with explanation and then the waiting time with no acknowledgement at all despite calling up the hotline and emailing them. The hotline was manned by heavily accented foreigners who spoke with a heavy Filipino accent and were programmed to apologize in a standard statement and no feedback after that. Upon advised from my wife after 2 weeks, I lodge a report with the police. I’m telling you that the police were excellent, within 24 hours, my refunds started taking place. I’m saying this because about 8 years ago my wife had to take the same action, police report against DBS. Kudos to the Clementi Police Division for being very professional and fast. DBS really have to reflect seriously on their quality pledge “Asia’s safest Bank”. I recommend knocking your heads if you haven’t woken up or gone through your security systems. This is utter bullshit to say residual fraud. I trust you can still recover from this episode and please ask your service staff to speak English clearly (to English speaking customers).

because DBS has got the no 1 man CEO FOREIGN TRASH....!!!!
    • KO  •  3 months ago
Legally it is the money of DBS got stolen not the customers of DBS's. For example, you borrow money form DBS in cash, the cash got robbed/stolen, is it DBS's money which got stolen? No! It's yours!

Thus, media can help to correct the mindset and not make like the banks are doing us a favour when they are just trying to save their own money!

    • S7rik3R  •  Singapore, Central Singapore  •  3 months ago
DBS Bank securities really worries us now cause it seem to easy to breach their security system and who knows the next issue might be our detail leaks ... and those money lenders comes knocking up our house for nothing.

After so much much pre-cautions taken, it happens all over again. Looks like it's not going to end. Well, I'm going to Close my account and switch to other banks for now.
