At the Singapore People's Party (SPP) rally on the eve of Cooling Off Day, party chief Chiam See Tong told supporters that he wants to make Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC "his kind of town".

Chiam said hopes to bring the spirit of love and compassion to Bishan and Toa Payoh.

Team member 36-year-old Wilfred Leung took to the stage after Chiam and discussed how under the party leader the the Potong Pasir Town Council managed to carry out lift upgrades for 29 blocks for only $2 million and this happened without the residents of Potong Pasir paying a single cent for the lift upgrades.

Leung also mentioned that the Potong Pasir Town Council has never lost a single dollar on investments unlike other Town Councils.

Leung attributed this to a prudent and pragmatic way of handling funds at the Potong Pasir Town Council.

"The experience from managing Potong Pasir Town Council will be carried forth to Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC," said Leung.

At the same rally, Leung made assurance that the party has established a group of people who will form the core Town Council management committee. This includes architect Juliana Juwahir, 38, businessman David Tan, 64, and Potong Pasir town councillor S Kunalen, 53.

Among the group, they will decide who is going to lead the Town Council to carry out work in Bishan-Toa Payoh.

Leung urged Bishan-Toa Payoh voters to not worry as there will be a smooth transition.

Candidate Benjamin Pwee reiterated that the reason why SPP does not have concrete plans for the next 5-years is because the party wants to consult with the residents of Bishan-Toa Payoh. He promised that within 100 days of being elected, the group will announce its five year plans.

He also asked the voters to take a stroll around Potong Pasir on Cooling Off day. He hoped that voters could see for themselves that Potong Pasir is not the "slum" described by the media.
