Here's what some candidates have to say about the General Elections and their plans on winning the hearts and minds of voters.

"Let this be a contest of ideas, let this be a contest of programs and see who can deliver a better future for Singaporeans, for our residents." -- Tin Pei Ling, People's Action Party, Marine Parade GRC candidate

Why only put TPL comment and no comment from Nicole??

Today on TV everyone can witness for yourself how TPL deliver her speech?
No punch, lack confidence and poor body language, poor presentation.

Very impress with Nicole's speech, create impact and deliver strong message!!

GCT, what happen to TPL's buddy? Not doing her job or sacred of her because her hubby is
LHL private secretary so scared offend him so dare not pin point her mistake?

Nicole will make a very good MP, please support NSP for MP-GRC.
      • entebbe 1 year 1 month ago
I was about that say that! Why put TPL's remarks first? It is just empty coached talk!

What programmes? You are using tax payers' money to deliver your "own programmes"! Imagine I take $1,000 from you, give you back $300 and tell you that you must be thankful to me!
      • juzwakeup 1 year 1 month ago
I do agree even I am not Marine Parade voters. I will still support NSP at other areas. Remember Nicole only 24 yrs of age and the way her speech and confidence YES she can be a very good MP.
About this TPL her body language already sold her always long ago when she 1st appears on TV. "CHILDISH" I think that is why PAP put her together wif GCT. Residents from Marine Parade remember vote wisely or you will regret for another 5 years.

Haha...search the youtube when people ask her about the health care and she say it is low and manageable...and then a baby orangutan drop its jaw. Don't push her too hard and then she will stomp her feet and then she will whine "I don't know what to say."

So much for $15,000....can I have an orangutan or a cute chow chow...to replace her..at least I know they are cute and not trying to act cute.

Mr Sitoh, I bet my last dollar that you will lose again this time
because you are NOT SINCERE. You know it in your heart.
    • Jun Hong  •  1 year 1 month ago
      Sitoh talks about loyalty??

After 2006 election, he abandon PP residents, broke his promise to install flood lights and does not host walkabouts for 3 years. 3 years spent in his ivory tower stoking his bitterness. Now that CST move out of PP, he is back, trying to sweet talk the PP residents that he is a loyal servant to them....

      disgusting

        @ Jun Hong

Totally agree with you. Sitoh now does the job to announce of LUP instead of HDB or town council. In his recent dialogue session with PP residents, he evaded the questions of national issues though he initially invited the residents to talk about beyond estate management.

I spoke tro some PP residents, they are suspicious of Sitoh's sincerity. Generally they commented "Lina Chiam may not be a fantastic speaker BUT she has a HEART TO SERVE just like CST. What we want is listening ears, caring eyes and sense of compassion." After hearing their views, I will swing my family votes to Lina.

      Burden for Generation Y:
My aging parents still have outstanding HDB loans to repay.
My 3 married siblings also have outstanding HDB loans to repay.
The system was so craftily designed to suck not 1 generation, but all future generations dry. At best only one in the extended family of 4 homes for example: only the older generation can possibly sell their HDB flat for a profit. The proceeds can hardly help to repay a tiny fraction of the mountains of debt his 3 married children owe the HDB.

In reality, how many of us can really afford to sell our flat for a profit, and to suffer the indignity without a roof over his/her head.

Asset-enhancement is not sustainable, a mirage, a mine-field or a silo designed to suck it's citizens one generation after another.

Some 15 years ago, Finance Minister Dr Richard Hu publicly forewarned that the HDB price "had gone berserk".

Past 25 years, policymakers craftily influenced the supply/demand directly affecting land sale prices. It deliberately allowed landed property rich to speculate in HDB resale price.

To prevent a steep fall in Resale price, it later on opened the floodgate for new citizens and influx of PRs to push even higher HDB resale price.

Overcrowded Singapore today, no longer has the physical space to bring in more new citizens and foreigners like we did in the past 20 years to speculate and prop up the spiralling and unsustainable HDB resale price.

Property bubble must burst during generation Y's lifetime.
Threat of negative-asset is a reality looming in the horizon.

Widening income gap and shorter biz cycles, retrenchment and unemployment will heap more financial anxieties on Generation Y with the 30 years HDB loan mill stone tied around their necks.

What if health condition prevent Generation Y working thru age 70 in order to clear their outstanding HDB loan.

Can Mr Mah Boh Tan issue parliamentary reassurance that 30% wage rise is feasible ?

Even oil and resource rich countries with vast land banks, dare not claim that a 30% wage rise is feasible, unless our parents are one of the Ministers.

yah i am still paying for my HDB loan...i hope the WP won't devalue my flat as they promised.....

Asset enhancement only benefit the rich.
      • SG-gal 1 year 1 month ago
The damage already done by MBT so it will take a very long time for things to reverse. There is no value to HDB flat as it is 99 years lease-hold. So only got PAP to blame for their poor housing policies. No matter how, a certain group of people will be unhappy. But to prevent Singaporeans from suffering any further from high HDB prices, actions must be taken and I believe WP can do it.

What utter rubbish this is. TPL said, "Let this be a contest of ideas and programs"?. What ideas and what programs. All your ideas and programs are, "Vampire Orientated Like". Sucks citizens blood, please chuck them away because when you put it up for contesting, we are going to close our eyes and shut our ears. Sorry mate!, enough is enough.
      • juzwakeup 1 year 1 month ago
TPL's ideas is to get her FAT pay n bring her parents to mainland China, if you vote her. So think twice before you vote.
      • zorro007 1 year 1 month ago
        Correct!
    • Jun Hong  •  1 year 1 month ago
Tin Tin is kinda BSing here.

A contest of Ideas and Programs?!?!?

Given PAP broad based promises, past track records, we can assume promises can be kept, but livelihood of ordinary Singaporeans will get tougher.
Given WP lack of past track records and more indepth manifesto, we can probably assume some promises cannot be achieved, but livelihood of Singaporeans may be better at the same time.

The lack of Ideas within PAP leadership is apparent with their recycled manifesto for the past 3 elections. Promises were kept, but at the expenses of ordinary Singaporeans. The income disparity between the rich and poor had widen since 2006. Life of an ordinary Singaporean had gotten tougher during the past 5 years.

If this is a contest to see who can squeeze the most GDP growth out of Singapore, i believe PAP will be the undisputed champion. Sadly, we are talking about flesh and blood here instead of robots. We are talking about an ordinary man who needs to feed his family and pay his bills.

This contest Ms Tin is gleefully anticipating concern our livelihoods!!

Brothers and Sisters, please vote wisely. Another 5 more years of PAP ideas and programs may see us lose everything we hold dear.

i think mr chiam says it best. there is ZERO accountability in the government. nobody needs to explain or take responsibility for their mistakes.

wong kan seng - escape of mas selamat, wasting millions of dollars on island manhunt.
vivian - blew hundreds of millions of dollars in IOG.

they only know how to take credit, but when things happen, they just smile smile and forget about the whole thing. hello, world-class parliament, people resign ok! in japan, they take it so serious that they even take their own lives!

Why they didnt put up what Mr Mah said???He said hes going to make HDB affordable, but today he say young couple just need to work 2-3years and they can afford to buy a flat???Is he really that heartless???He really want young couple to squeeze with their parents first in their 3-4room flat first then they can have their own home sweet home????
To the people living under Tampines GRC,Please PLEASE DO US A FAVOUR...VOTE HIM OUT PLEASE...At first I doubt SDP got power to win,but after watching all their speech in youtube and forum I can see they got the talent and power..Im really praying PAP will lose Tampines GRC...Let Mr Mah know that we are not happy with him,let him lose his stupid pride....

The whole nation is depending on the voters of the wards with some good opposition/team to
      put them into parliament.
This is not just about any single ward. This is about the nation, Singaporean wanting their
voices to be heard for the better of tomorrow.
Therefore, hoping the intelligent voters of those wards to assist their fellow Singaporeans as
a whole to vote in the credible oppositions. This is what its about.
"VOTE WISELY" All the best Singapoorer. Now or NEVER. Let ALL our voices be heard LOUD
    • Dracon The Learner  •  1 year 1 month ago
Frankly I rather have a nation of gentleman who are hopefully but not necessary scholars then a nation of scholars who are no gentleman.

I am rather tire of people calling themselves scholars whereby many of the scholars I met in Singapore have tunnel vision, huge ego, but yet have very little understanding of the things around them. They constantly think that they are right, refused to admit when they are wrong and come up with ideas in which are burdensome to the people and waste resources due to the fact of impracticality. And mostly, our scholars in the ruling party do not keep their promises

I rather have a group of gentlemen who are sincere, earnest and know the reason they are called. To be gracious in temper, to be humble in speech, to be respectful in dealing with people regardless, and to seek others before himself. To build a nation of character and value and not just economical value.

Singapore ruling party has always put $$$$ to be in their speech. Singaporeans are constantly struggling to earn $$$ just enough to survive and the first thing in the morning is $$$$, at the end of the day it is $$$$. The society has lost its core and if we persist with this, our next generations will just be about $$$$.

Imagine the impact..people will not be engaged in true friendship and relationship, it is about what benefits I can get out of the person. Woman marry man because of the $$$ and not love. Children stop being filial to their parents and stop taking care of them because of $$$$. The whole society is about $$$ and no one can trust another. There is a old saying.."There is honor even among thieves." but the direction the ruling party is pushing the people...we are eventually going to end up in a country worse than a den of thieves...no honor.

It is sad to see we have a nation but no home. We have a house but no family. We have scholars but no brain :)

Everybody can "talk" ideas and program, like MBT has "talk" about "affordable" HDB Pricing, and how "ERP" is good. By talking, even "CPF" can seems like a good thing (having your earned money locked up for decades).

But when it comes down to action, What I want is people who are from the ground (common singaporeans) who understand and LIVE a similar lifestyle. How are elites and rich people able to understand and represent the common Singaporeans when their lifestyle is so different?

Answer: They don't , which is why so many people are unhappy. The rules and policies serve to benefit the rich/elite and not the common singaporeans. This is my opinion.

'On why he emphasised humility in his speech: "That is the premise of the People's Action Party, that we are here to serve to do our best to help our residents improve their lives." --Lim Biow Chuan, People's Action Party, Mountbatten SMC candidate.'

Mr Lim, this's admirable of you to say this. But I wonder if this is your really PAP's premise or only your own premise. Humility is nowadays in deficit from your seniors and the bigwigs in your party when they put out subtle threats to us electorates from time to time.

'"The current policies have caused hardships and anxieties to people and I feel that somebody has to got to stand up and make the changes. The voters of Mountabatten have only seen one way of doing things for the past 20 years and I have got people behind me who are talented, creative. I can use their creativity and ideas. I can do something different in Mountbatten." -- Jeanette Chong-Aruldoss, National Solidarity Party, Mountbatten SMC candidate'

Yes, thanks Ms Chong-Aruldoss. So long as all oppies think along this same line, it'll provide a whole lot refreshing difference from the stale MIWs' preoccupation on dollars and cents (for their own pockets perhaps). Keep up this humility and lead us in making the change for the better. Empathy for the average common folks (like myself), dare to make a change through creativity and ideas - these should rightly be how our country should be steered in this present of era of uncertainty, not stuck in the same old muck!

Sorry if I'm overtly pro-oppies here. But since it's a spirit of free debate and sharing of one's own views and inclinations, I hope this does not offend anyone's sensitivity. Oppies way to go and all the best in your fight!

finally a report without MBT's words!!

Dear tampines voters, pls help SHUT MBT UP! if i stay there, i will personally do my part to SHUT HIM UP AND BOOT HIM OUT.

now flats so expensive, next time my kids will be slaves to mountains of debts and will be too stress to think of having children. then fertility rate gonna be minus! for me, i will have to continue to work so as not to burden them with whatever medical and living expenses, until i am either 6ft under or (most probably) in plastic container (like those for CNY goodies). i just love my life now and future.

wonder what a elected representative in a constituency can really do for the constituents besides going through the motion during meet the people sessions? how many will stick their guts to challenge policies , table to amend constitutions - especially the cpf scheme . amid the pleas and cries from people to have a say on how and when to make use of their hard earned monies , these representatives will not care to elaborate.Their standard answer will be it is a policy. So what is there to talk about who can deliver the future for us is irrelevant. what are they equipped with to dare challenge the norm?
    • sts  •  1 year 1 month ago
This message is to posters like Pete, Observer Tan, Abdul Aziz Ahmad and the likes of PAP slaves:
I dun give a @#$% (at least for GE2011) the quality of the opposition candidate so long as they have the guts and willing to go into politics to stand up against the PAP, they have my vote. Fortunately, I don't have to go against my conscience doing so since Tampines GRC has NSP like Goh Meng Seng, Raymond Lim and company who are worthy to be given the chance to look after Tampines residents and provide a genuine voice of Singaporeans in parliament.
While they may be the underdogs, I hope there is a freak result in Tampines which will mean the end of MBT and his nonsense.
If NSP should win, I hope they will prove themselves worthy of continued support in the next election.
Cheers to Team NSP - Mr Goh and his comrades!! May you receive majority support!
    • Dio  •  1 year 1 month ago
My concern is Tampines GRC.I really hope that the people of Tampines will take MBT out for the HDB screw up policy that he champion. NSP good luck with the GE I hope the people of Tampines will give their support for change because I will.God Bless.

"Let this be a contest of ideas, let this be a contest of programs and see who can deliver a better future for Singaporeans, for our residents." -- Tin Pei Ling,

She never say majulah PAP in this one. I said let this (Election) be one about sending opposition into the 80+ seats for the sake of Checks and Balance, for ending the 1 dictatorship party system in Singapore politics. To end tactics like no upgrading for "opposition wards" of Hougang and Potong Pasir implemented by PAY AND PAY
