Gruesome discovery near Tanah Merah MRT station

An unidentified person's skeletal remains were found in the forest along New Upper Changi Road, next to Tanah Merah MRT station last Saturday.

The discovery was made by two land survey staff and police were alerted to the gruesome find shortly after.

According to Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao, the skeleton was clad in a tattered black T-shirt, while an old mobile phone, a blue haversack and some cash were found nearby.

Indian foreign workers Pandi, 26, and Kumar, 32, made the discovery and said it was hard to tell if the bones were of a male or female as the body had fully decomposed.

A piece of rope was also found hanging on a tree branch near the remains, said the paper.

A resident who lives in a cluster of terrace houses near the forested area complained of a foul, rotting smell about two months ago, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Police have classified the case an unnatural death and investigations are ongoing.
