A police report has been filed against Marine Parade MP-elect Tin Pei Ling for posting a comment on her Facebook page on Cooling-off Day.

According to election regulations, candidates are not supposed to campaign during that period.

But a police spokesman confirmed on Monday night that a report has been made and they will be investigating.  Details of the report or the person were not revealed but it's believed the report was filed by a member of the public.

This incident in question is not new. A similar complaint was issued by the National Solidarity Party (NSP)'s Nicole Seah to the Elections Department on May 6th --  designated to be Cooling-off Day -- regarding a comment posted Ms Tin's Facebook page at 1:33pm.

The comment read, "OooOoooOooh! so that's what REALLY happened? Wow. I think tears in Parliament is worse than ANYTHING ELSE!"

The comment was in reference to an incident involving Nicole Seah, who was part of the NSP team contesting Marine Parade GRC. A day earlier, it was reported she had cried upon listening to a story about how a resident in MacPherson could not afford tuition fees for her young son.

The comment was removed 20 minutes after it was posted.

Tin, who was part of SM Goh Chok Tong's Marine Parade PAP team that beat the challenge by the NSP, had earlier explained that the comment was posted by one of her Facebook administrators, Ms Denise He.

When contacted by The New Paper, Ms He clarified that she had mixed up her Facebook accounts and had mistakenly uploaded the post. Tin said the post was removed after she notified He.

According to local socio-political blog Temasek Review, the NSP now also intends to follow up on its initial complaint.

NSP chief Goh Meng Seng said, "Now that someone has filed a police report, we can pursue it once we have the police statement … This is good for Singapore too. Cooling-off Day is a new rule and we don't know how the authorities will react to the filing of reports. This will set a precedent for future elections."

The news has also created a buzz on micro-blogging platform Twitter.

Twitter user @Jxuan tweeted, "I feel sorry for Ms. Tin Pei Ling. Poor lady under enormous stress I guess."

when a terrorist escaped, WKS passed on the responsiblity and penalty to his subortinates........TPL now passed it on to her administrator, exactly another genuine PAP product! The same quoestion may be asked, "does she have to resign?" Hope to hear an answer this time.

You see? They're probably grooming her to take over WKS or KBW in a few years! (shudders uncontrollably from thought)

It is better for the authority to take prompt actions otherwise next time anyone can just deny that they had their facebook used by someone accidentally, to slander any person name and get away scot free.

Even it is a genuine mistake, TPL must act responsible and not run away from law even if it is an oversight or as usual caught offguard like her senoir.

How true Hazards07 & Janas - she's a fast learner.. Learnt from WKS, plus no need to say sorry.. Let's see what our dear LHL has say about it.. I'm sure they'll put the best lawyers in Singapore to fight her case.. After all, there are so many of them in the ruling party itself!

‘I can’t control several million videos on YouTube. But your website, what you are putting out in your own name, I think that should end on the day before cooling-off day.”
      – PM Lee, Straits Times, 2009.
but TPL can't control herself and what she did?

Most probably, its going to be another one of those days that police will say that ''we have investigated and the party involved was given a warning. No further actions required''.
However, its not about what punishment TPL will received. Its about what how TPL will react. Her 1st reaction to 'Taiji' it to someone else already shown the people of Singapore her character....
Dear Ms Tin...as a MP, u must be a person of intergrity and good character. Take my advice if u make a mistake, there are only 3 things that u must do about it. 1st) Admit it. 2nd) Learn from it. 3rd) Don't repeat it.

Is wrong to get someone else to adminster own facebook, just like personal e-mail account, facebook is absolutely personal.
    • A Yahoo! User  •  1 year 0 months ago
facebook username & password was taken care by an administrator?? so can we say the earlier comments are posted by an administrator too?

geez...why so many "thumbs down"? are those from TPL FC? are they too blind to see, too deaf to hear what's happening out there? i have to say this again,

"if tears is worse than anything else, a coward liar is worst"
    • Srun  •  1 year 0 months ago
One can show whether she is a responsible person by looking at how she deal with thing.
TPL, its give you no right to break the rule and said is not me.
Please show some responsiblilty by admitting your mistake.

What excuses Ms. Tin put up does not exonerate her from the fact that posting was done on Cooling Off day. Denise is free from blame because Ms. Tin gives her the pasword.

What we will be seeing is how justice is served in Singapore and the influence the Singapore government has over the SPF in this situation. This event will show what PAP is really made up of. They have always said that they are the only talents to rule Singapore and they always choose the right people go into government. How this Tin girl has been chosen goes to show that the government actually do not have the good judgement to choose the right people. The government said that they couldn't find the talents from the private sector to join the government. How then has it been that in this election, many of the talents from the Private Sectors have joined the opposition parties. These people seemed to be more talented then the ones the PAPs have chosen. How many of the new PMs from the PAP actually made a good impression during this elections? Many of them are just easily forgotten if not for their notoriety like the Tin gal.

How can the government justify the million dollars they are earning now when the people they have shown not much of talents when they have created a mess in Singapore with the policies they have come out with. The choosing of Tin gal for example has made a mockery of the Generation Y as well as many Singaporeans. When LSL chose her, he did not consider the people of Singapore. This speaks volume on the way people are brought into the government and also the way women looked upon by to the ruling party. Its no wonder that they are so few women that were chosen into the cabinets. One really wonders how these women representatives are stack up against the male counter part.

People do not dislike this girl because she was young and inexperience. TPL is nothing but an airhead. Her comments to the press and the speech she gave during the election were silly and ridiculous. Look at the way she has conducted herself and yet all the other Senior Ministers including LSL who went on to defend her. Do they not learn that they can never bet on a losing horse? No matter how she turns out to be, Singaporeans will always remember who this girl is and how she got into the parliament. Even though she just seat prettily in the parliament and said nothing, Singaporeans will always remember that they paid $15000 for her grooming. This girl will always be a sore thumb to the PAPs and she will always remind them of their stupidity.

Will Singapore ever forget this this girl and move on? Very unlikely. We will be seeing her for the next 5 years. For those who supported her about giving her a chance? How is it that the PAP never give Singaporeans a chance but force them the competent with the foreigners for jobs and put them peanuts while their own kind get $15000 to learn? Singaporeans need to rethink about this country.
