Coming soon, the chance to help the less privileged could just be a camera click away.

A campaign to raise funds for the underprivileged by taking a photo of your meal will run from 22 to 28 August.

The shareURmeal, Singapore! campaign, in its second year running, calls on people to snap a picture of their meal and send it to shareurmealsg@gmail.com. Multiple entries will be accepted.

For every photo sent, City Developments Limited (CDL) will contribute $3 to TOUCH Community Services' food distribution programmes, such as its Meals-on-Wheels project targeted at low-income families.

Tapping on the power of mobile connectivity and social media, the campaign aims to collect 1,600 photos, which will be uploaded onto the shareURmeal, Singapore! Facebook page.

ShareURmeal, Singapore is a personal initiative by three Singapore Management University undergraduates Tim Mou Hui, Seow Jianda Dominic and Lim Si'an Shawn.

Last year, they raised over $3,000 by reaching their target of 1,000 photos.

Chairperson Mou Hui said, the team seeks to ensure programmes for the underprivileged remain funded. They also hope to raise awareness on such programmes for the needy.

They also want to increase awareness among the tech-savy youth and encourage them to use social media for projects that will impact the community, he added.

"City Developments Limited is pleased to once again support the shareURmeal, Singapore initiative. This campaign is indeed an innovative way of engaging the community through social media, whilst raising awareness for the needs of the underprivileged around us," said CDL's head of corporate social responsibility Esther An.

She added, "Leveraging on Singaporeans' love for food and fondness for photography, it's a great way to get involved in helping the less fortunate, while having fun at the same time."

Local cafes The Garden Slug and Box n Sticks are also helping to raise awareness of the campaign by alerting their customers to the campaign.

The shareURmeal movement started in Pennsylvania, US, as a grassroots initiative to alleviate hunger in poor urban communities in 2009. It was launched in the UK and Singapore last year.
