In sports, the winners talk, while the losers pack their bags and make a quick exit.
However, in politics, losers talk. Why?
In social media Yahoo netizens support the underdogs.
      They also talk.
And when their candidates lost, they talk more and they curse the winner. Why?
True Singaporeans don't talk. They only deliver good positive results Why?
The moral of the story: By your deeds, people will know you.
Talk is free and full of air. Nobody knows you.

Tan Jee Say is really a no -brainer. To say that if he did not run, many of his supporters (half a million or so ) would have spoilt their votes; and furthermore, to insist that he did not cause TCB's lost , by implying that those who voted for him would have voted for TT if he did not contest...........is another piece of screwed up logic . Coming from a chap with a long list of scholastic achievements, really put me off.

By saying that, it shows that he is really " bo leow". No wonder he did not make it in the civil service. I am sure many of the half million who voted for TJS must be really annoyed when reading that. I suggest TJS and TKL keep quiet and spend a day in church and reflect. I am sure he and TKL will live to regret what they have done.---- depriving Singaporeans a President who will speak up for the underdog citizens, the less fortunates, the FT trodden drop-outs and a President who is non-elitist and can speak out on the many issues and policies that have adversely affected the life of the less endowed citizens.

You are the one that have a screwed up logic, there is no right or wrong... He may be right, you may also be right... WHO KNOWS?! I voted for him, and if he didn't run i would hae voted TKL... Don't play the blame game here, accept it and move on

        @macbeth Tan
After all this and you cant see then You are the real no-brainer, the daft people.
I think you have nothing at all in the CPF thats why u think and behave this way.
By the way he has only 35% of the votes.

From the comments, escept for a few views, the political and social mindset of Singaporeans need at least another 50 years to mature. The so call "professional" analysts' views are just standard comments. There is no real depth. The constitution needs to be changed and improved. The role of the president require expansion to encompass what is lacking in the government's ability to think broadly without bias to party's interest.

Thats fast to declare winner to TT since overseas votes not taking to account yet. differerence by only 7000+ votes. overseas singaporean less than 7000 of them voting? If TCB had won at the 1st place, im sure 'they' sure said waiting for the results of overseas counting to finalize the winner..
      • Sara 8 months ago
Ray, overseas voters numbered only 5,000+. Even if all had voted for TCB, TCB would still have lost. Think we should get our facts right and not make misleadiung comments..

Dear Fellow Singaporeans, owners of Singapore....we have been given a chance to vote, we have been given a chance to make a change but majority wins. Although I am extremely upset, I learn to endure it. Please take note, if all promises by the newly elected president is not carried out, all 744,397 physically voted for him must Repent!

Forget about inciting who should not have participated in the PE race, any quality person have the right to come forward, however, how did the COE certify the eligiblity of the candidates? I could see that only 2 qualified for the race, that is Dr Tan Cheng Bock and Mr Tan Kin Lian, at least both have left their entity for 3 years.

These 2 gentlemen are great men in my view, they have the heart for all their people even before they came in as the presidential candidates. They have help, fought and support all unfortunate people at their reach, this is not a story but facts.

I certainly respect Dr Tony Tan too, for his many contributions in various ministries. If he had convinced the government to object the MRT's vision, we could have ended up travelling from point to point for half an hour instead of a 10 mins ride and for an hour's ride we could have been travelling the whole day squeezing inside a long waited bus, sweating and grumbling. Thanks for the primary school streaming that makes the parents stress when children are not even able to distinguish the right and wrong.

For Tan Jee Say, he has the courage to come forward but I am confuse, he just finished the GE race, then came forward to PE race instead of preparing for the next GE race which is more feasible sense. What's next, back to GE race in the next term? Is trust level still exist?

I have some regards to Dr Tan Cheng Bock, I can feel his fatherly touch, he is a medical doctor who can treat people's pain, he can sing well too. He is also very fluent in his language and a very upright man, he is a politician too...whatelse do you want from him..who say he cannot interact with the global leaders...

We have lost the game to our politicians, they played the game well, they have allowed more people (eligibility?) to the race, to distract us and to dilute our votes.

Well, all remaining Singaporean, let's wait and see if the 744,397 voters will need to Repent!

Your analysis had miss-out the very important fact. That is the election strategy. You have miss out the infuence of each candidate, what is most important , less important, better to be, which one with no threat, and so on.

Look into it, and you will be very surprise how come TT won, why TCB lost marginally, TJS won 20+% votes and TKL lost his deposit. It is clearly shown in the final result.

The result also show how many social groups in Singapore, each group interest, thier fears, which is group is fighting, which group is swing voters, etc.

The final PE result do tell a thousand tales. Look into it carefully. You will probably learn much more thing then you think you presently know.

Perhaps, you should analyse what Merlion symbolize first. This will help you in this analysis.

Presently I am pathing myself to other direction. But my hearts will always with FELLOW COUNTRYMAN. Should you need further private mail, I can be contacted with 'AngryBird66@Yahoo.com.sg'

Maybe those rejected votes should be analyse, that should tell the whole outcome.

Analysis of GE and PE on opposition.
In GE, 40% voted for opposition.
In PE, Tan Jee Say is the only one strongly linked to opposition, however he only got 25%.
If we combine Tan Jee Say and Tan Kin Lian votes, that will be 30%.
Meaning 10-15% opposition supporter voted for PAP-linked PE candidate (TT and TCB).
Seems that support for opposition is dwindling in just within 3 months.

That is what you claimed. The fact is the other way round. You are clearly blind to suggest that.

I have heard that Phony Tony is the maternal uncle of our prime Minister, and that Wong Gan Seng is also Lee Sien Long’s cousin! Wow, one big , rich and happy family!

Anyway, I think DPM Tharman is also blood related to the Lees, although he is dark and the Lees are fair…that is why together they have created so many “Grey Areas” in our national policies!

Gillian Koh, senior resercher of public policy. Your comment is so biased
and naive. Everything is so clear and yet you are unrealistic.

Political pundits are having a field day, trying to analyse the PE results, and giving their half cent's worth !
A win is still a win, even if it were by one vote. True, in terms of percentage the support is not that of the majority for Dr TT. But that is immaterial -- the purpose of the PE is to elect a President, Now that Dr TT is the President, let the others (defeated candidates) clam up and go into political hibernation. If they have the energy, they can have another fling six years down the road ! Meanwhile, there is no need for belly-aching and wishing for "what if" !!

I AM SO RELIEVED, SATISFIED, AND OVERJOYED THAT MR. TONY TAN WAS ELECTED. HE WAS NOT ONLY THE BEST, HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WORTHY OF THE POSTION.
PERSNALLY I THINK HE WON BECAUSE THE OTHER CANDIDATES ----

TALKED A LOT BUT MOSTLY HAD NOTHING TO say, or ,
HAD DISHED OUT TOO MUCH (bo)CKRAP TO THE PEOPLE, or,
THOUGHT HE HAD THE ULTIMATE INSURANCE POLICY FOR ALL SINGAPOREANS.

ACTUALLY, WHILE I AM RELIEVED FOR NOW, MY REMAINING CONCERN IS THAT ONE OR ALL OF THE LOSING TRIO MIGHT STILL COME BACK FOR ANOTHER SHOT AT THE PREZ POST 6 YEARS FROM NOW, AND THROUGH THE IDIOCY OF SOME OF THE VOTING PUBLIC, WINS THE ELECTION AT THAT TIME. I SHUDDER AT THE THOUGHT BECAUSE, NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THE LOSING TRIO GIVES ME CONFIDENCE THAT HE HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO HOLD THE HIGH OFFICE. ALL THAT THEY HAVE IN COMMON IS AN OVERLY BLOATED VIEW OF THEMSELVES.

      Analysis:
The likely people who voted for Dr TT are heads of company, superscale civil servants, chief of the clans, chief of unions and the rich. These groups of people are generally not affected by bread and butter issues of the common people. As such, they vote for Dr TT out of respect. All his merits or demerits were put aside.

We always long for a speak up President its might not been now but pretty soon, we had 539.279 votes to proved and its will grow till 2016 GE.
    • Yeo  •  9 months ago
Dear Tan Cheng Bock, you could have been president and are very worthy of being one. The 0.34 percent win by Tony Tan is because he had the entire PAP machinary helping him, voting for him etc. Just take it as he already had a pre-vote of 0.34 percent. However, you won each and every vote yourself, with your sincerity, honesty, moral courage. You dare to speak up agaisnt the PAP-or any other ruling party if you think they are doing wrong, without causing too big a conflict. You really deserve to be president and all of us are very disappointed that you missed it so closely. I wish you all the best. Hopefully, you are healthy enough to contest in the next PE, if not, rest well and enjoy your soon retirement

Take the election as a study assuming the PAP split into two fraction some time down the road. Will the PAP A team be able to form a government? From the results the answer is no. The PAP has to stay unite to be in power. They cannot afford to split into a A team and a B team.

Although 64.81% did not want TT, 65.15% did not want TCB,
