Water in S’pore safe to consume from the tap: PUB
The PUB, Singapore's national water agency, said on Wednesday that the water treatment process at its Bedok plant is stringent and water from there is safe to consume straight from the tap.
This comes after some residents raised concerns about the safety and quality of local water after a decomposed body was found in Bedok Reservoir earlier this week.
When Yahoo! Singapore contacted PUB, a spokesperson said: "The stringent procedures are not a result of the incident. The waterways are well-managed and PUB has to ensure the water supplied to residents are in line with the World Health Organisation's guidelines for drinking water."
The PUB spokesperson explained that raw water from various sources such as Bedok Reservoir is conveyed by pipelines to the waterworks where it is chemically treated, filtered and disinfected. The treatment frees the water of harmful bacteria and makes it safe for consumption.
Laboratory tests are done to make sure Singapore's water is moderately soft and safe to drink straight from the tap, the PUB spokesperson added.
