A television show in China has been slammed for its demeaning makeovers to make women "pretty" and "perfect".

"Beauty Class" posted a Chinese message on China's Twitter equivalent, Weibo, saying the reality TV show allowed viewers to reinvent themselves from an ugly duckling to a white swan.

"Are you afraid of wearing a low-cut top? Are you afraid of wearing miniskirts? No problem, let us teach you how to transform into an S-figure, turning you into a perfect woman," the message said.

The message was posted on 7 September and has attracted over 100,000 reposts and 22,700 comments.

With its first episode set to air on Thursday, the TV program has released a provocative 43-second trailer on its Weibo.

The first trailer used angles that focused on the show participants' busts while a second trailer, tells a different story.

In another trailer, it revealed that the TV show has content ranging from makeup lessons and self-defence lessons. However, the women participating in the show were all scantily-clad.

A user Xuchen said on ChinaSMACK that "China is changing in many ways."

Ununanimous added, "These type of shows have been going on for awhile, except this is probably more risque than most I've seen."

Another netizen felt that there was nothing wrong with the TV show.

"Honestly, I don't see the 'evil' in this. America's been doing it for many many years, selling shows with girls. This show just seems to be very upfront about it. Actually, it's refreshing to see," said Marc.
