Is owling the new planking?

It seems that planking has been uprooted and 'owling' is here to take its place as the new Internet craze.

Owling is pretty similar to planking except that you perch on dangerous spots like an owl rather than lie down like a plank.

Like in the planking trend, owlers post photos of themselves, well, owling and upload it to the Web to show other netizens the most dangerous and interesting spots one can owl.

Owling was entered into popular web trends website UrbanDictionary on 12 July.

It was added by user Stormteddy and the post says, "The new viral craze; a bit like planking, except you can crouch down and stare like an owl. You then take a picture and post it on Facebook. Brownie points for random places to owl."

And in the age of Web trends, owling must get a Facebook page! The mandatory Facebook page boasts about 11,800 followers and there are other smaller groups.

Short-lived planking came into popularity in May and died off just after three months. How long will owling last before something new comes to whisk it off its feet?

And what comes after planking and owling? Some users suggesting Hawking (as in pretending to be Stephen Hawking) but we think that's just plain rude.

How about coning, the art of grabbing ice creams by the ice cream instead of the cone? Or toothpicking, which is essentially planking vertically while balancing on your head. You could try the summer-appropriate leisure diving, where one jumps into the pool and before crashing into the pool, strike a nonchalant pose.
