Sales manager emerges winner of Subaru Impreza Challenge

He came, he stood, and he conquered.

For sales manager Chong Kiat Chi, the 75 hours and 36 minutes standing with his hand on a car was worth the effort.

On Tuesday, he emerged the winner of the MediaCorp Subaru Impreza WRX Challenge 2011 and walked away with a brand new Subaru Impreza 2.5 MT Hatchback.

"I'm incredibly happy to have won," exclaimed the 42-year-old, who was into his sixth attempt at the challenge.

"I dropped out of the challenge last year due to exhaustion but this year, with the support of my family and friends, I was able to last for as long as I did," added Chong.

Runner-up Tilani Haresh Lachmandas took home a S$5,000 cash prize.

Into its 10th anniversary, this year's challenge which kicked off last Saturday at Ngee Ann City's Civic Plaza witnessed its largest-ever regional face-off with 400 contestants from 10 participating countries.

For making it into the top 10, best performing regional representative Neblasca Alex Jr. Jose from the Philippines received a cash prize of S$5,000 while nine other regional representatives each received S$1,000.

Thailand won a sum of S$10,000 for being the country that collectively stood for the most number of hours.

This year's competition also saw the participation of 32-year-old Singaporean Adam Kamis, a freelance graphic designer with only one arm, better known as Adam 1ArmRunner.

The winner of last year's challenge lasted 75 hours and 17 minutes. Singaporean George Lee, who won the competition in 2008, holds bragging rights for a record time of 81 hours and 32 minutes.
