'Breaking Dawn' and 'Hunger Games' battle for MTV Movie Awards

In a struggle between the new and old teen franchises, the most recent vampire tale of The Twilight Saga won Movie of the Year, the top prize at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards, but 2012's young adult blockbuster The Hunger Games took four awards, the most of the show.

The Hunger Games' golden popcorn trophies were awarded to Josh Hutcherson as best actor and Jennifer Lawrence as best actress. The dystopian survival story also took best fight scene and best transformation for Elizabeth Banks's wild makeover.

Emma Watson was at the event to pick up the award for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, which won for best cast.

Kristen Stewart and Jacob Lautner accepted the prize for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1. Stewart and fellow Twilight actor Robert Pattinson won the Best Kiss Award for the fourth year in a row.

The MTV Movie Awards on June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles was hosted by Russell Brand, who stars in the upcoming Rock of Ages. The all-star ceremony included presenters Mila Kunis, Matthew McConaughey, and from Prometheus, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron, who had a faux brawl on stage to present the award for Best Fight.

Other honors went to Johnny Depp, who received the Generation Award, and to Emma Stone, star of The Help, Crazy Stupid Love, and the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man, winning MTV's first Trailblazer Award.

Some off-screen awards were selected by viewers' tweets, such as votes for Best Hero, which went to Harry Potter.

A new sneak peek of excerpts from The Dark Knight Rises was shown for the MTV audience.

Best On-Screen Transformation: Elizabeth Banks, The Hunger Games
Best Music: "Party Rock Anthem," LMFAO (21 Jump Street)
