Russia are set to appoint Fabio Capello as their new head coach after negotiations between the two parties, vice-president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Nikita Simonyan has revealed.
The RFU has been in the market for a new trainer since the departure of Dick Advocaat to PSV following a disappointing Euro 2012 campaign.
A shortlist including the likes of Pep Guardiola, Harry Redknapp, Marcelo Bielsa and Capello was released last week, and the RFU has now opted to give the job to the Italian coach.
"We have decided to appoint Fabio Capello as the new coach of our national team," Simonyan was quoted as saying by ITAR-TASS.
"In the next couple of days Capello will sign the contract in Moscow."
The 66-year-old, who was in charge of the England until February, is reportedly set to earn an annual salary in the region of €12 million. His first objective will be qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Singaporean director Anthony Chen described as “surreal” the 15-minute standing ovation that followed the world premiere of his debut feature film "Ilo Ilo" at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. Though the ending of the premiere couldn’t have been more perfect, the 29-year-old Chen said the beginning was quite “nerve-wrecking” as it was marred by technical glitches.
