2 Nov – American director Bryan Singer, who started the "X-Men" film franchise back in 2000 with "X-Men" has been confirmed to be taking up the responsibility to direct the latest instalment of the Marvel superhero team film entitled "X-Men: Days Of Future Past", according to Channel 24.
Singer, 47, left the world of the mutants after helming "X-Men" (2000) and "X2" (2003) for "Superman Returns" in 2006. However, following "X-Men: First Class" director Matthew Vaughn's leave for unspecified reasons, Singer will be taking over the director's chair to continue the Marvel superhero flick in 2014.
While Vaughn, who also directed "Kick-Ass", may not be directing, he will still be involved in the production as a producer, and he will write the script alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
It was reported that the new "X-Men" film will based on Vaughn's idea, and Kinberg previously revealed that the sequel will focus more on Magneto.
Meanwhile, comic book guru Mark Millar described the new flick as "X-Men Meets Terminator", since the story centres on how the mutants become the target of machines called Sentinels and sent to concentration camps.
Fans will get to see the main cast of "X-Men: First Class" like Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Rose Byrne and Nicholas Hoult reprising their respective roles in the sequel.
Singer's "X-Men" had collected $296 million while "X2" was able to gross over $407 million at the worldwide box office. Singer's next film to see release is the fantasy adventure film, "Jack The Giant Slayer", which tells the story of a young farmhand (Nicholas Hoult) who must save a princess from the giants after accidentally opening a gateway to their world, in March 2013.
