Bugaboo Pushchair Photo Sparks Outrage Among Mums: What Do You Make Of It?

A photo of a model running while pushing her baby in a buggy has caused quite a stir. And probably not for the reason you may think.

The image, released by top pushchair brand Bugaboo, shows Dutch model Ymre Stiekema running with her two-year-old daughter Lymée – who’s strapped into the new Runner model.

But it’s not the toddler’s safety that’s sparked debate, it’s what Ymre is wearing while pushing the £515 pram.

The model is clad in what can only be described as a teeny tiny bikini – definitely not what most mums wear while jogging. Whatever happened to leggings and a hoodie?

“See how model and mum Ymre Stiekema stays fit and healthy with the Bugaboo Runner,” the caption accompanying the Amsterdam-based company’s campaign reads.

The image, which featured in Vogue Netherlands and on Bugaboo’s Instagram page, quickly received backlash with fans commenting on the ridiculous wardrobe choice.

While most don’t dispute the fact that Ymre’s one fit mama (c’mon, just look at that taut tum), they simply aren’t impressed with the lack of clothes – and the fact that the advert doesn’t represent the majority of mums.

“I also often jog in a bikini,” one Insta user wrote in an ironic tone. “I prefer running naked with my children,” a Facebook user wrote.

Another mum said, “I have two children and if was running in this on the school run it would be because I’d forgotten to put my clothes on because we’re late for school, my 5-year-old had fallen off his scooter, my 2-year-old refuses to put his shoes on and there’s a good chance I haven’t had the time to do my bikini line. There’s an image to leave you with [sic].”

However other commenters were quick to stand up for the brand, suggesting that the negative remarks might be a case of the green-eyed monster.

“We mock what we are too lazy to achieve: self-loathing women chiming in from everywhere to criticise physical fitness. Break out the ice cream girls, the jealousy meter is in the red zone,” one fan wrote.

“Really ladies? Are you that judgemental or jealous that you have to question what she is running in? Women should support each other not tear each other down because you feel inadequate. I would never get away with wearing that while I run, but great for her!” another Facebook user commented.

The high-end buggy brand is a popular choice with lots of famous mums, and it’s thought that even the Duchess of Cambridge used one when Prince George was younger. Kate Hudson, Sienna Miller and Miranda Kerr have also been snapped pushing various models from the range.

The Runner is the brand’s newest model, designed for active parents who wish to continue jogging with their baby in tow. The buggy itself is a great idea for mums and dads who don’t want to compromise – it’s just a shame that the company didn’t win over the public with its ad campaign.
