Bus driver charged over fatal accident

A bus driver was charged in court on Monday for causing the death of a pedestrian and not stopping to help the victim.

According to The Straits Times, Phang Yiap Choy was driving an SMRT bus when he allegedly knocked down 67-year-old Ng Sew Hong at a pedestrian crossing between Yishun Central 1 and Yishun Avenue 2 on 28 October last year.

The 28-year-old Malaysian allegedly fled the scene after the accident without rendering aid to the woman and escaped to Malaysia. Seven hours later, he was arrested after he turned himself in at Woodlands Checkpoint.
