Chinese journalists stop celebrity drug reports

22 Aug – With the growing numbers of celebrity drug arrests, showbiz reporters in China are calling for the temporary halt of these arrest reports, stating that it only heightened these celebrities' popularity.

As reported on ECNS News, a number of showbiz journalists recently posted the public appeal on several Chinese social media after the arrests of Jaycee Chan and Taiwanese actor Kai Ko last week, calling for reporters not to report these stars' personal situations and works for at least a year.

The post claimed that these celebrities, especially the lesser-known ones, are only benefiting from the media attention.

Prior to Jaycee and Ko's arrests, celebrities such as Chinese actors Gao Hu and Zhang Mo, novelist Ning Caishen, director Zhang Yuan, singer Li Daimo and Hong Kong actor Roy Cheung were among those who were detained by the Beijing police.

According to the post, some of these actors were not famous and were rarely in the news before their arrests, and the reports of their arrests only boosted their popularity.
