France is one of Chinese travelers' favorite destinations and every year, an increasing number of Chinese tourists visit the country. While in France, a Chinese tourist spends an average of €5,400, of which 47% is spent on shopping, according to a study by FT China Confidential.

The amount spent goes up by 34% on subsequent trips, found the survey.

Chinese respondents explained that they came to France to buy products made in France, especially from prestigious brands such as Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton.

Almost 60% of respondents bought designer goods on their trip to ensure they were getting the genuine article rather than a counterfeit version.

A total of 1,227 Chinese tourists who had traveled at least once in the last twelve months were involved in this study, carried out in January 2013. All the respondents lived in one the ten biggest cities in China and an equal number of men and women were interviewed.
