    Christopher Kane Autumn/Winter 2012

A Christopher Kane show is always one of the hottest tickets at London Fashion Week, for one reason and one reason only: the clothes. It doesn't get much better than Kane's unique take on London style. For Autumn/Winter 2012 he returned to one of his favourites looks – sleek black leather/PVC, which outlined the majority of the collection. Using just one section of the colour spectrum, every outfit was a combination of black, blue, purple and poppy red, interspersed with the occasional flash of white, and there were plenty of classic Kane shapes on show.

Instantly identifiable mini dresses came in the form of sleek halternecks and unusual cutaways in a futuristic watermarked silk fabric, edged with the black PVC for added toughness. His signature shell top-pencil skirt combination was updated with vibrant sheer colour overlaid with bold black floral print. Pencil skirts featuring a delicate and swirling floral paisley print were teamed with massive tonal cable sweaters or ribbed red and black jumpers, which is such an accessible, intelligent look. Leather was pin-striped, while straight jackets and coats had an almost psychobilly feel, decked out in blue-and-black or violet-and-black leopard print. Even fur jackets were given black pleather collars.

This collection seemed to mash-up Japanese references – belts seemed reminiscent of obis – London goth kids, fururistic predictions and signature Kane pieces. With a few renegade surprises, of course, but if anyone can make puffa jackets cool again, it's Mr Christopher Kane.
