City Harvest trial accused Serina Wee talks fashion, shopping in blogshop article

City Harvest trial accused Serina Wee talks fashion, shopping in an "exclusive" interview, published as a blog post on the MissyStella site, founded by Wee and Sharon Tan.

They may be key defendants on the City Harvest corruption trial, but Sharon Tan and Serina Wee have found time to publicise their blogshop through an "exclusive" interview.

The interview, published as a blog post on their MissyStella site, is publicised as "an exclusive interview with Serina Wee and Sharon Tan".

However, one wonders if Wee wrote the post herself — a check on the "author" field of the post reflects that it was posted by a user named “serinawee”. All previous blog posts on the site were also authored by the same user.

Tan and Wee are the finance manager and ex-finance manager of City Harvest Church, respectively. They are among the six defendants in the City Harvest trial, the other four being church founder Kong Hee, senior pastor Tan Ye Peng, former church board member Chew Eng Han, and former secretary of the church management board John Lam.

In the interview, Wee and Tan make no mention of their legal issues. Instead, they discussed their favourite beauty brands and shopping habits. They also named their favourite skincare brands: Tan uses Dermalogica and Sothys products, while Wee is partial to Clinique.

Being an online blogshop co-owner, Wee is of course a fan of online shopping, “I am an avid online shopper. I love the flexibility and that I am able to browse through many items in seconds!”

Wee, who has been known for her stylish dressing during court appearances, said, “Though I follow trends, I choose clothes that reflect who I am and what I feel comfortable in.”

When it comes to fashion, Tan says her favourite designer is Victoria Beckham.

The business partners also talked about their friendship and how the blogshop came about.

Tan was quoted as saying, “Serina is one of the kindest and most gentle ladies I have ever met. I think she is one person I know who doesn’t have enemies, only friends.”

According to the interview, the two friends had always dreamt of starting their own label and decided to act on it in July 2013, “at a time when we were going through what felt like the lowest point in our lives – with the encouragement of our friends and loved ones”.

The first leg of the City Harvest trial began in May 2013, and the third part ended last week. It will resume later in July this year, pending the judge’s decision.
