SINGAPORE: Sunday was Mother’s Day, and there were celebrations islandwide to recognise one of the most important person in most people’s lives.
Regardless of age, mothers were the VIPs.
The day kicked off with a fun ride on the Hippo & Rhino buses for 185 senior citizens.
It was a little trip around down—town Singapore to re—acquaint them with the city—state’s fast changing cosmopolitan landscape.
The community project, organised in conjunction with Mother’s Day, also allowed them to interact with some 130 volunteers.
It was jointly organised by the Chinese Development Assistance Council and the Lions Befrienders.
During the outing, they also visited the Esplanade to enjoy a concert of evergreen oldies.
Each of them later received a special goody food pack.
Over at Darussalam Mosque at Commonwealth Avenue West, mothers received stalks of roses, with words of appreciation attached to them.
The flowers will also be given to all Muslim women who visit the mosque from May 13 to 15.
They are all part of efforts to acknowledge their contributions to the Mosque and the shaping of religious life.
MediaCorp Radio’s Oli 96.8 FM also hosted an event to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Now into its 10th year, the high—tea session saw some 450 people treated to entertainment programmes and games. — CNA/de
