SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Manpower has urged companies to outsource short—term contracts based on quality, instead of solely on price.
On a visit to the National University Hospital (NUH), Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower Hawazi Daipi observed how such responsible outsourcing has helped to benefit both NUH and low—wage workers.
For the workers, responsible outsourcing has enabled them to upgrade their skills because companies no longer focus solely on the bottomline but on other aspects like staff development. And for NUH, better trained workers mean better services for its patients.
Going forward, the Manpower Ministry wants to push more companies to adopt this practice.
"It is a long haul, but we want to make sure low—wage workers and workers who have caught on age, and who might not have enjoyed high education, (are) able to keep their jobs and with good salaries," said Mr Hawazi.
