SINGAPORE: The HSBC Women’s Champions event will be back next year, after two successful editions in 2008 and this year.
The latest announcements put to rest earlier speculations that the event would be cancelled due to the economic crisis.
The tournament will be held from February 25 to 28 next year.
However, only 63 players will compete, compared to the previous 78.
The prize money will also be reduced from US$2 million to $1.3 million.
However, it will be raised to $1.4 million for 2011.
Organisers said they are confident that despite the cuts, the event will continue to attract the best women golfers in the world.
Guy Harvey—Samuel, chief executive of HSBC said: "We are in talks with golf clubs to stage the event and will make the announcement on the venue shortly. The format will remain under the strict criteria with winners from the various tours, so that remains really the same."
