Contestant 'raped' on Brazilian Big Brother

A contestant on the Brazilian version of ‘Big Brother’ has allegedly been raped on live TV.

Police in Brazil have confirmed that they have started an investigation and carried out a search of the studios in Rio de Janerio.

Their actions come after footage appeared to show 31-year-old housemate Daniel Echaniz force himself upon student Monique Amin, 23, who had reportedly passed out following a party.

Echaniz, a male model, was seen entering the bed of Ms Amin before appearing to have sex with her under the covers as she seemingly remained unconscious. The incident was captured on the night vision cameras used in the series.

When Ms Amin was questioned about it in the diary room the next day she appeared to know little of what had happened.

Later that day the police arrived and questioned her for three hours before taking her away for an examination.

Echaniz has since been kicked out of the series and could face six to ten years in jail.

Speaking about the decision to remove him from the show, presenter Pedro Bial said in a statement:

"Since Sunday morning, the board had been evaluating the behaviour of Daniel, who is suspected of having infringed the rules of the programme.

"Big Brother examined his behaviour without jumping to conclusions and with the utmost care. The images showed a breach of the rules of the programme.

"After careful evaluation, the direction of the programme found that the behaviour of the contestant on the night of the party was seriously inadequate."
