David Beckham on Being as Big as Calvin Klein, Comparing Notes With Victoria and Why His Naked Days Are Over: EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

David Beckham launches Bodywear for H&M at H&M Regent Street on February 1, 2012 in London, England.

From our excited tweeting yesterday, you may have gathered we spent the day with David Beckham – well, us, David, and about eleventy billion excited fans. It was the launch of the football star’s Bodywear line for H&M and there was no way Grazia Daily was missing the chance to ask him about his undies.

At the brand’s Regent Street store, Mr B spent over two hours signing boxes of pants for the queuers – but we were lucky enough to go to the intimate press conference that evening. It was there that David dished on all things underwear…

Sporting a cream cardie, low-key jeans and a sweepy hair do, David began by explaining how it all began. “It was after a successful stint with Emporio Armani that I decided to give designing underwear a go,” he said. Then H&M stepped in with the irresistible proposal of taking the range to 1800 stores and 40 different countries. “I was like ‘great!’”

But unlike H&M’s other celebrity collaborations, this isn’t a one-time-only offer – David Beckham Bodywear is going to be available for quite some time. So following the frenzy that was Versace for H&M, how do David’s design skills compare to Donatella’s? “I’ve never been compared to someone as great as her so I’m honoured,” he says. “She’s an amazing woman who’s done amazing things with Versace since Gianni died.”

Speaking of designer comparisons, Victoria launched her own line in Harvey Nichols this week. Do Mr and Mrs Beckham compare notes? “Of course, we sit at home and show each other certain sketches but when you’re married, you trust each other’s judgement. It was actually Victoria who said, ‘maybe you shouldn’t wear the underwear when people are pulling and prodding you [during the Bodywear trials]’. I wouldn’t have been comfortable with that.”

And he beamed with pride when talking about his wife's achievements. “She’s had such amazing success and I’m so proud of what she’s achieved. To go from a Spice Girl to be taken seriously in the fashion industry is something special."

And what do his sons make of the hunky new ad for the range, due to be beamed across America during this Sunday’s Super Bowl? “They come out with remarks like, ‘Oh my God daddy, not again’ or ‘everyone’s going to see you in your pants!’. But that’s what’s great about kids, they’re so honest.”

BUT! The highlight of the evening came as the “last question!” command was called. “I think this lady wanted to ask one,” David said, grinning at Grazia’s Polly Vernon (clearly he’s angling for a spot on Chart of Lust). “It’s a quick one: do you walk around the house naked?” HA!

“I definitely walk around in my underwear, but not naked, especially now that we’ve got a daughter," Becks revealed. "With the boys, it’s not a problem because they’re kind of naked all the time. But with a little girl, it’s different. My naked days are over.” More’s the pity.

Check out more interview highlights and the full video below…

On what he likes least about his body: “After 20 years of playing football, my toes. They’re not bad, but they’re not great.”

On his style icon: “Steve McQueen. He looked good in just jeans and a T-shirt.”

On his future: “I’d love to be as big as Calvin Klein is for underwear. He’s an inspiration to me and to achieve something like that would be incredible.”

On underwear nightmares: “Thankfully, I’ve always worn pretty nice underwear. My parents always supplied me with nice underwear and that’s continued.”

On his wardrobe staples: “A pair of vintage jeans, vintage boots and a white T-shirt.”

On his career highs: “I always look at my Manchester United days as highs, especially in 1999 when we won the treble.”

On his career lows: “Definitely being sent off in 1998, but I turned that into a positive because it if it hadn’t happened, maybe I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in today as a professional and as a person. It made me and my family strong.”
