Dead sperm whale found in Singapore waters

Operations are ongoing to salvage the carcass of a sperm whale which washed up ashore in Singapore.

A sperm whale has been recorded in Singapore waters for the first time.

Unfortunately, the specimen was found dead and washed up near Jurong Island.

The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum received reports of a whale this morning, it said on its Facebook page. Nine of the museum's staff "have been deployed to salvage the specimen".

The sperm whale is protected by a whaling moratorium, and is currently listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Yahoo Singapore has contacted the museum for more details.
