Dr Mahathir says nothing will come out of Umno woman’s actions against Najib

Despite congratulating Langkawi Umno Wanita leader Anina Saaduddin for her "bravery" in lodging a report against party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad felt it would not yield any results. The former prime minister said this is because Najib allegedly blocked the rule of law from running its course. "I congratulate you on your bravery but no action will be taken on the reports because Najib does not allow the rule of law to run its course. "Those who do report will be abused or sacked. This is the risk we have to face," he told her after she asked Dr Mahathir about her fate in the party following her actions. Anina created a stir when she attacked Najib at her Langkawi Wanita division meeting earlier this month. Her outburst was caught on video and went viral. In the video, Anina was recorded saying Najib had "lied" to Umno members by claiming all of them supported him. She had also lodged a report against Najib with the party's disciplinary committee and filed a suit against the ruling Malay party's top leader to account for the chronology of events involving the RM2.6 billion channelled into his personal bank accounts. Dr Mahathir, who was Najib supporter turned strident critic, said Umno would not be able to do much if a lot of people lodged police reports against the party president. "Who are they going to sack? We cannot be afraid, as this involved our race and nation. We are just defending our nation's sovereignty so there is no need to be afraid," he said. In his typical acerbic style, Malaysia's longest serving prime minister said he was also sacked from Umno in his younger days before he returned later to be the Malay ruling party president. "I was also expelled from Umno previously and because of that, I became the prime minister," he said in response to rumours that his son, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir may face the boot as well. "But in politics, we have to face various challenges and accept them. But the results are always unexpected by the person who did the sacking. "If we look at history, the sacked person will probably become more popular," he said. – August 29, 2015.
