Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has looked across the Spanish capital to replace injured Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria in his latest squad, calling up Eduardo Salvio from city rivals Atletico.
Di Maria had been included amongst the players set to face Switzerland in a friendly scheduled for February 29, the Albiceleste's first test of 2012. The midfielder suffered a muscular injury with los Blancos, however, and was ruled out of the fixture.
A note on the Argentina Football Association (AFA) confirmed that Salvio, 21, and capped three times by the senior team, was chosen as the man to replace Di Maria. He is one of three men who were added to the list on Wednesday evening, along with two players from the Argentine Primera Division.
Central midfielder Rodrigo Brana and goalkeeper Mariano Andujar were the only two representatives called up from the local league. The pair both have a long relationship with Sabella, having acted under his direction in the Copa Libertadores victory of 2009.
