Bus coma patient awakes, mental health worries

    UPDATE

The elderly woman who fell into a coma after falling down on an SMRT bus has woken up, but more problems persist, reported The New Paper (TNP).

54-year-old Ding Weibo fell into a coma after falling down on an SMRT bus on 18 December. Ding’s condition has gone from bad to worse when her brain swelled even after an operation to remove part of Ding’s skull to relieve pressure in her head, AsiaOne reported.

The family was overjoyed when Ding woke up from her coma on 31 December. However, when she started speaking three days later, new worries surfaced for the family that came to Singapore in 1998, and are now permanent residents, TNP wrote.

Ding's 58-year-old husband, You Bujia, told the paper that when his wife started speaking three days after she woke, her thoughts were in disarray. He added that she would call her daughter by their dog's name, and she has yet to call him by his name even though she recognises him.

He also described to TNP that her behaviour was now "abnormal". Doctors also said that it was possible for Ding to have suffered mental disability and the loss of memory due to her head injuries.

Ding was with her 27-year-old daughter, Ding Xiao Sui, at Orchard Road near the Heeren on the night of 18 December when they both boarded bus service 167 at around 8pm.

While on the bus, the bus captain suddenly jammed the brakes, causing Ding to lose her footing and fall. She then hit her head on a seat and fell unconscious after fracturing her skull in the fall.

The bus captain responsible for Ding’s fall has been suspended. He had been an SMRT service leader for about two years.

Already sent back the 1st batch of Ah Tiong not long ago, when will be the 2nd batch ? better suggest no Ah Tiong, Bangala, Pinoy is suppose to drive any vehicle on the road, This way, less congestion plus our road can be more safer...
if they want to drive, can, but need to pay high deposit to get Singapore license, since they come for money,
I suppose they have already get rich to get a license.....

Another issue that SBS and SMRT have yet to look into. I've called them lots of times regarding the way their drivers drive, and I bet I'm not the only one to do so. Bloody chinamen think they are still in China, where the roads have what...10 lanes? Where it's 5 km between bus stops? Where you can weave in and out of traffic and noone will friggin care?

CHEAP labor yes, but at what cost? TO FILL YOUR OWN DAMMED POCKETS WITH MONEY!!!

BOTTOM LINE: KICK ALL THE BLODDY CHINAMEN OUTTA THE COUNTRY!!!!!

All the comments here assert a few things

      1) China man drivers have done this several times (Jamming of breaks & reckless driving)
      2) SMRT policies of hiring is screwed up
      3) SMRT transport safety is negligent
      4) We are NOT world class
      5) SMRT's PR statements are EXTREMELY HORRIBLY WORDED
      6) Singaporeans demand better from SMRT & PAP government

Can i hear a loud hallelujah people?

So, what is your latest template you wanna show to the poor lady's family this time? "Compassion Opportunity"????......
Pssst......"Compensate Opportunity" is the template to show in order to make things right.....never say anymore sorry because we are sick of you repeating again and again and again and again.....
Hopefully, the injured lady recovers on time for the festive holidays....Speedy recovery, Madam!

What the hell did the SMRT spokesman said

“We are sorry the incident happened and investigations are on-going. We will be in touch with the family to show our concern."

Shouldn't he/she say "We will do everything we can to help the family"

Its a shame to read such statements from SMRT!!

For those people who keeps saying that SMRT is a private company and not a government board, well..... Guess what......? It's time to sue SMRT bankrupt.
    • KONG  •  5 months ago
You have every right 2 sue not only the driver but also SMRT. You can sue tem under COMMON LAW and make sure you hit them real hard. the driver and SMRT deserve for endangering people's life.

Do we call a 54-year old person an elderly woman?
    • andson  •  5 months ago
I would like to send my regards to Mdm Ding and family. I had experience with the bus drivers who e-brake when I am boarding the SBS bus with my wife who is pregnant and my 1st child walking towards the back of the bus for a seat the bus driver jammed the brakes suddenly.Lucky I am in the position to prevent my wife from falling back. When I turn back I saw nothing is in front of the bus to warrant that e-brakes a moment ago then I saw the bus driver dash out to the petrol kiosk toilet. It is not that I felt angry over him going to "PEE". Why I post this is I want to let everyone know that what ever complain you send over to the transport company at this point of time the reply email that I got is so politically correct that you would think it is a well thought default email or letter sent out to all who complain.

We have to buy insurance to ride on buses and trains nowadays.
    • ttats  •  5 months ago
The family should consult a lawyer and know their rights and SMRT's responsibility. No point suing just the bus driver, must sue SMRT. SMRT is responsible for the welfare of its passengers and in such an incident where grievious hurt was caused to the elderly lady as a direct result of actions by SMRT employee on an SMRT vehicle, they must compensate accordingly. A mere apology is never going to make up for the life robbed off the poor woman and the anguish her family has to go through. SMRT must pay damages!

54 year old is hardly ELDERLY. I know many 60 year old uncles doing Marathons...Ha ha.

The only lesson SMRT will learn is to be sued and bankrupted in court by this family. I hope the family take this opportunity to teach that pea-brained of a CEO a lesson she will never forget.
