Esso says its new fuel will deep clean your car’s engine

SINGAPORE — Motorists here will be the first in the world to try new fuels from Esso that the company says can improve engine performance and response.

The new petrol formulation for each grade of petrol sold by Esso goes on sale today. They have higher concentrations of an additive package that has been designed to give a deep engine clean, says Esso.

Cleaner engines perform better than those whose valves and pistons have been coated by deposits, or whose fuel injector nozzles are clogged.

The higher additive content will not in itself lead to a hike in Esso’s pump prices, says a company spokesperson.

To go with the new fuels, Esso has also upgraded its stations across the island with a brighter look.

Pump petrol is produced from a wholesale gasoline base, but each brand formulates its own additive package to differentiate its fuels from those of competitors.

Additives are also available over-the-counter and can be added separately. Caltex bottles its Techron additive, for instance, and sells it to drivers. Adding one bottle to a tank results in an additive concentration about 10 times greater than in petrol from the pumps, it says.

Esso says it is looking into launching its new petrol formulation in other markets.
