Everything seems to be going badly for Malaysia, says Nazir Razak

Prominent banker Datuk Seri Nazir Razak has expressed disappointment over the country's current state of affairs, which is currently being plagued by haze, falling ringgit rate and the national football team's humiliating 10-0 defeat. Posting on his Instagram account, the CIMB chairman wrote: "I don't remember a time when just absolutely everything seems to be going badly for Malaysia. "I pray that this is the darkest before dawn". The accompanying picture in his post was that of a man in a face mask with the Petronas Twin Towers enveloped in haze in the background. The picture also has a graphic on the ringgit plunge and the Harimau Malaya's 10-0 mauling by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the World Cup qualifying rounds. Nazir, who is the brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, often used his Instagram account to comment on current affairs. Parts of Peninsular Malaysia, especially the Klang Valley have been hazy over the past few days, which has been blamed on land-clearing activities in Sumatra, Indonesia. There was a brief respite from the haze today due the the slight change in wind direction, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department, which will continue on until tomorrow. Meanwhile, the ringgit continued its freefall for an 11th week in its longest stretch of losses since 1993, reported Bloomberg. The ringgit depreciated 1.4% in the past five days and 0.3% today to 4.2595 a US dollar as of 10.30am in Kuala Lumpur, according to prices from local banks compiled by Bloomberg. It has weakened 18% this year and fell to a 17-year low of 4.2990 on August 26. Meanwhile, football fans were shocked and upset when Harimau Malaya was demolished 10-0 by the UAE in the qualifying second round Asian Zone Group A match at the Mohamed Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, in their worst ever result in the last 50 years. Upset fans, including the Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, are now demanding that coach Dollah Salleh be sacked immediately. – September 4, 2015.
