False message on Brunei police's WhatsApp

Bandar Seri Begawan (The Brunei Times/ANN) - The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) yesterday dismissed as false a message claiming there was a brawl taking place in the capital through WhatsApp.

The RBPF in a press release yesterday said the message incorrectly stated: "People are reminded not to enter or be nearby the BSB area because a fight is occurring. Info will be sent from time to time when the situation is safe. PLEASE NOTE".

However, the RBPF said the message was false and baseless. The police said members of the public should not feel anxious about the message and that Bandar Seri Begawan and it's surroundings were perfectly safe. They also called on those who had received the message not to forward it on.

The police warned that spreading incorrect information that could threaten public order was a criminal offence.
