Factory fire in Woodlands put out

UPDATED (3:20pm to include statement from SCDF)

A fire that broke out in a factory in Woodlands at noon Thursday was put out by authorities at 1:40 pm.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), there were no casualties.

A spokesperson added that the fire at 28 Riverside Road started on the factory’s fourth floor and was confined to the same level.

The SCDF first received a call about the fire at 12:01pm. They dispatched two fire engines, two Red Rhinos, five support vehicles and one ambulance to the scene.

Eyewitness Priya Devi, a 21-year-old student, told Yahoo! Singapore she first saw black smoke coming from “an industrial building near Republic Polytechnic” at 12:55pm from her home near Causeway Point.

Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire.

accidents happen when there are unskilled workers employed to try and do the job right. Cheap labour has its pit falls.

hello to whoever you are.. I don't know if you're a fireman or not..but FYI, regardless of how big or small the fire, SCDF personnel has to ensure that there will be no more reignite fire occuring. this is called damping down. neglect this & they'll spend more than 1.5 hours trying to put off the fire again. so use your brain before you shit your brain here!

hey, guys less presumptions n the fire broke it may be many reasons n nw pending upon the investigations.i was there i saw everything.it was in marsiling industrial area. The nearby residents at marsiling rise were alarmed by the toxic smelling fumes that initially polluted the air. Many residents alerted each other to close their windows.I have the video footage from my kitchen window.I truly applauded the SCDF respond teams they arrived in few mins at fire scene.Kudos to SCDF,Saving Lives are Your Priority 1.Be Gracious n Humane for .Not be Selfish.

JTC, BCA, NEA and FSSB are sleeping. They never inspect those factories properly. Sugei Kadut area is the example for those government agencies are sleeping. Mosquitoes, roaches, illegal prostitution, illegal cigar...etc..go and see 36 Sungei Kadut Street 1, inside dormitory is more worse than jail, no sanitation, no hygiene,...there must be a fraud or corruption otherwise there is no way to have license or permission to run dormitory business.

So sad and so predictable by the uneducated idiots.
    • jackrose  •  Singapore, Central Singapore  •  3 months ago
What is all this pollution thing about? All year around our own citizens with the FT's have been burning huge bonfires in our neighborhood causing so much irreparable damage to environment and human lives! 1st put a ban on all forms of 'burning' to really call this a CLEEN and GREEN city!
