Flash floods hit parts of Singapore

Flash floods hit parts of Singapore in the early afternoon of Friday after a torrential downpour in the morning.

In a Facebook post at about 1:30pm, PUB, Singapore's national water agency, said that due to heavy rain flash floods occurred at Upper Serangoon Road, making two lanes impassable to traffic.

Users on Twitter also reported flooding in Bishan, Selegie, Thomson and Bukit Timah.

At 1:45pm, PUB said that flash floods had been reported near KJE slip road towards Woodlands Road, but by 2pm, the agency said the waters there had subsided.

At 2:45pm, the flood at Serangoon had subsided as well and lanes had become passable to traffic, PUB said.

Feel free to share photos of the floods with Yahoo! Singapore on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Ya industrialization did destroy our planet's environment but flooding already occurred way before human civilization. Most important thing is how best we should and could deal with these environmental problems.

Siao liao! If the trend of COE is directly proportioned to the floodwater level, we no need to buy car anymore. Buy boat better!

There will be one category for sampans exceeding loading limits of 160kg, another for 200kg and an open category. All sampans are to be equipped with waterproof IUs. There will also be a 100% ARF on these boats. Sampans older than 10 years will be subject inspection to ensure proper and safe floatation, with incremental river tax every year.
I heard they are floating this idea (pun intended)!

A sign of either global warming which cause sea level on the rise or a sinking island. Yet keep building taller building and more undergrounds structures. This island is too small and too crowded!!!

Too many economic advisors, we do need immediately Flood Control Advisor.
    • A Yahoo! User  •  7 months ago
Contructive comments or view worth millions dollars... We have already paid to our PM, Ministers, Advisors, top rank officers to come out constructive ideas. If layman's ideas can be better than them, this imply that they 're good for nothing, So there's no need us to come out any ideas because the millions dollar men are the most talented for doing these.. PAP MPs have come out many good ideas in parliament and seem like all workable with no negative comment and feedback in parliament. Only the Opposition MPs ideas and remarks received lot of negative comments, all are rotten views.

      Flash Flood!?
The culprits are litters of all kinds and fallen leaves/twigs and cutted grasses swept/blown (deliberately by grass cutters/maintenance workers) into drains, gutters and canals. Sudden storms will washes these litters into drainage which will be clogged up in matters of minutes immediately from the deluge. The quantity of water body isn't forceful enough to overcome the blocked drainage, thus resulting in slow or no flow through for these accumulated hydraulic locks. "Flash Floods" are the effect of all these irresponsible maintenance workers/grass cutting contractors who didn't closely supervised their workers in doing an honest day/contract of work expected of them. And, of course, the litterbugs!

Pix shows the road in front of Bosch Building. It floods whenever it rains heavily. PUB should improve drainage before some RI buy (future minister, you know) gets washed away.

Isn't water from Selegie,Bishan,Bukit Timah & Upper Serangoon Rd drains all channel into Marina Barrage ?? If Marina Barrage isn't the cause of it what is ? You don't need a genius to tell us that when you block one end of the the drain at the downstream, its a matter of time it will flood and overflow all the way up the drain........!!! Its all a wayang to get outside expert to do a study and declared its not the fault Marina Barrage. Who dare to say so cause its the idea of LKY......!!!
