Flood situation continues to improve in Sabah, Sarawak – Bernama

The situation in the flood-hit states of Sabah and Sarawak continues to improve, with 1,207 evacuees at relief centres in the two states as of this morning.

The number of evacuees dropped from 1,677 last night.

The situation in Kelantan remained unchanged with 255 evacuees in relief centres.

In Sabah, the number of evacuees in Beaufort and Membakut dropped to 224 people from 45 families this morning compared to 614 from 179 families last night.

A spokesman of the Beaufort flood operations room said the evacuees were being accommodated at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Gadong hall (11 people), Membakut new hall (117) and SMK Membakut hall (96).

In Sarawak, the number of evacuees dropped to 983 from 306 families this morning from 1,063 from 332 families last night.

A spokesman of the National Security Council said that Samarahan had 410 evacuees; Mukah, 66; Limbang, 424 and Miri, 83.

They were being housed at eight relief centres, he said.

In Kelantan, the number of evacuees remained at 255 from 62 families at eight relief centres in Kuala Krai.

Their houses had either been destroyed or washed away by the floodwaters. – Bernama, January 26, 2015.
