Gary Busey files for bankruptcy in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Court records show Gary Busey has filed for bankruptcy and is listing more than $500,000 in estimated personal debts.

Busey's filing on Tuesday in Los Angeles provides few details but includes more than a dozen potential creditors.

The actor and reality show star does not state a reason for the filing. His manager Ron Sampson wrote in a statement the filing provides Busey "a new and clear path" to personal and career success.

The filing states the 67-year-old has less than $50,000 in assets.

Busey has starred in numerous films including "Point Break" and "Lethal Weapon" but has in recent years appeared more on reality shows such as "Celebrity Apprentice."

The filing was first reported Wednesday by celebrity website TMZ.

Gary Busey has never been the same since the motorcycle wreck that gave him severe head injuries. Head injuries create havoc sometimes with personality disorders. Perhaps some of his doctors can help him over this difficult time & help him understand the differences that have taken place because of the head trauma.

Was thinking the same thing Bmm. And Steve, yes his creditors will know via mail. They will receive notification then go to a hearing, all regarding his filing bankruptcy. They certainly don't need to find out through the media.

While I agree, this is the down side to being a celebrity - no privacy.

I love the poor guy. He tries so hard to please those around him that he got sucked in to a horrible mess after his accident. People took advantage, and still are. What happened to helping each other in a time of need? That is what friends and family are for, yet I don't see them backing him up.

Being a Bankruptcy Attorney, I am not shocked by articles such as this. Actor Gary Busey filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in California last Tuesday. Busey has listed more than $500,000 in debts in his Bankruptcy.

The value of California homes was cut in half and were wall street investments a couple of years ago. Many people are in the same situation as Gary.

Gary Busey hasn't been the same since his accident. He obviously suffered brain damage from the accident and reality TV exploits him for that. Leave the man alone. Probably everyone around him takes advantage of him, so I'm not surprised he is bankrupt.

Reality TV is the only thing that got him the $50,000 in assets that he has left.

Gawd, please don't let them repo his teeth. You know those things could probably supply the porcelain needs of a small Asian country for two decades. It's like he has White Stonehenge in his mouth.
